Camera Raw 8.7 is now available as a final release for Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC. This release improves performance when batch processing images, both through the Save button in Camera Raw and when converting images to DNG in the DNG Converter. DNG Converter 8.7 is provided for customers using versions of Photoshop older than Photoshop CS6.
As mentioned here, updates to Camera Raw 8 for Photoshop CS6 only include new camera support, lens profile support, and bug fixes. The new features listed in the release notes are only available in Photoshop CC.

Tried to install the updates a couple of times. Lightroom 5 update was fine Photoshop CS6 Camera Raw 8.7 failed twice. Online Support suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall CS6. Concerned that all my plugins and presets will need to be reinstalled as well. Any advise on how to do this with the least amount of time and effort? Thanks!

Try this: install Photoshop CC 2014 over the top of itself (without removing it). To do this, in the Creative Cloud desktop app, go to the Apps tab. In the lower half, labeled Find New Apps, there is a filter drop-down to the right. By default it says All Apps or Filters & Versions, click it and choose Previous Version. Find Photoshop on the list and the button will say “Install” but it will also be a drop-down menu. Choose CC 2014. This will do a “repair” install over the top of your existing files. It won’t remove or affect your plug-ins.
I am having the same problem as Roger. I’ve downloaded successfully into LR5, but can’t export anything now into PS CS6. It tells me to update to Camera Raw 8.7. But when I try it, the download fails. Surely we can’t be expected to uninstall/reinstall Photoshop. I have the same concerns as Roger about presets, plugins, etc.
There will be tons of people having this same problem, I would expect Adobe will do something about this ASAP?
Follow these instructions for CS6: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-applictions-cannot-updated.html
But use the 8.7 Download from here:
Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh
Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
Does that work for you?
I have the same problem and couldn’t solve it yet. Lightroom update 5.7 worked fine, but I can’t open RAW fies with Camera Raw in Bridge/Photoshop CS6 Extended (Camera Raw 8.7 required).
Where can I find the file “Camera Raw.plugin” as discribed in the instrucions Rikk mentioned? When I download the 8.7 Version it is an Application (DNGConverter) and not a file.
Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10.1
Photoshop CS6 Extended (V 13.0 x64)
Thanks for any tips.

When I try to download the Camera Raw 8.7 update to CS6 on my laptop, I get the message:
“The update server is not responding. The server might be offline or the Internet or firewall settings may be incorrect.” This has been happening for days. I tried shutting off the firewalls, but I got the same result.
I tried Rikk’s manual download, but that didn’t seem to work either. Need some help.
Maybe its disabled and this could help you http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/disable-auto-updates-application-manager.html
I installed this update yesterday. As a result, when trying to use the brush tool in Camera Raw to edit a photo, it is now offset a bit to the right. In other words, it paints to the right of where the brush is indicated. As this is one of my more important tools I use when post processing, it is a bit upsetting. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this issue, and if so, perhaps found a fix?
Any help resolving this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
My computer specs:
Windows 8.1
32gb ram
4gb Nvidia 780m
500gb ssd + 1tb hd
I have the same problem. When using the Adjustment Brush, the brush cursor and the actual painted area are not the same. It is very frustrating using the brush. It is not accurate at all. Moreover, the cursor now becomes black arrow and is bigger than the original. Can someone please help or provides a solution to this problem?
For the cursor problem try resetting your preference file. Instructions: http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?14226-Resetting-(or-Trashing-)-the-Lightroom-Preferences-file
Thanks for your response but I’m not using Lightroom. I’m using Adobe Bridge and my problem is in Adobe Camera Raw 8.7 itself. The cursor position and the actual area that will be painted is not in the same area, as what daniel heggie has said the actual painted area is being offset about one cm away from the cursor position. Only the Adjustment Brush is affected. Hope someone can help to give a solution or hopefully Adobe can fix the problem.
Any fix for this yet? It’s a big problem
Alaster and Ed, are you on Mac or Windows?
It’s a little unnerving to experience this systemic failure. For the amount of $$$ spent for this software (Lightoom 5 and CS6), I would expect better quality control prior to releasing an update this integral. This must be fixed ASAP, as it is part of my (and many others) livelihood.
What “systemic failure” are you encountering?
Is it possible to update to Camera Raw 8.7 with CS6 not creative cloud?
Yes.
I can’t find a download link. Do you know where it is?
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html It should be the first item listed. The instructions for CS6 are here: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-applictions-cannot-updated.html
I may just be missing it but all I see is the DNG converter. I can’t find an update for camera raw 8.7 anywhere.
You can find the manual update here:

> Windows

The latest release of Camera Raw 8.7 states that the Zeiss Otus 1.4/85 ZE is supported. Whilst in Camera Raw it is listed in the Lens Correction Tab, in Bridge the lens is just described as 85mm in the Metadata section. I also have the Zeiss Otus 1.4/55 ZE lens and this is correctly described in Bridge metadata.
Any ideas why this is would be appreciated – whilst not really an issue it would be nice to have the accurate metadata listed.
I’m running Windows 7 x 64 Pro.
Adobe:
Downloaded and used (Adobe DNG Converter 8.7 196.0MB 11/18/2014) to convert D750 NEF files to DNG. I continually get error “There was an unexpected end of file error” message. The program aborts and no DNG conversion file is made. I removed all options available and went with most basic settings with no luck (same message). Tried numerous times – same error message each result.
Parameters: Windows 7, D750 std. RAW setting, NEF file on hard drive – same folder for conversion, 11/18/14 8.7 DNG Converter, LR 4.4 (did not get this far).
Any suggestions or has this already been resolved? Thanks.
Post more details on the Camera Raw forum, we can help you there: http://forums.adobe.com/community/cameraraw
Why do need to suffer with this problem. Photoshop and lightroom ought to AUTOMAGICALLY synchronize versions of Camera Raw. How many years are we into this so called “digital revolution?” I am still getting HIDEOUS artifacts on the adjustment brush from version 8.7 in Lightroom. Photoshop says it is using Version 8.3.x. Trying to follow the enormous and daunting thread of “fixes” makes me want to take up bowling instead. awful product line and this is the “best” we can get.
When will Camera Raw 8.7 become available for PE12 ?
Is it possible to download Camera Raw 8.7 in PE12 and to replace the running Camera Raw 8.5.0.236 in my PE12?
The last available version of Camera Raw for Elements 12 is 8.5.
You can get the latest camera support for older versions of our software through the free Adobe DNG Converter. Details here: http://adobe.ly/ACRandDNG
Why is “the brush tool” NOT INCLUDED in either the Graduated and Radial filters n LR 8.7 as it is in the Camera Raw plugin inside Photoshop???
I’ve installed the DNG converter but it does not recognize D750’s NEF files so it can’t convert anything. Same thing with Photoshop CS, i’ve updated the Camera Raw Plugin to 8.7.1 through automatic updates and manual install but still I can not use my files in photoshop.
Any help would be appreciated!

Lightroom 5.7 should handle this natively without the need for the DNG converter. Can you confirm that you have the Lightroom 5.7 update installed?
Have you used Nikon Transfer? Older versions of Nikon Transfer are known to damage the raw files making them incompatible with other application. Please also make sure that you’re using the latest version of Nikon Transfer, or eliminate it from your workflow and import directly to Lightroom: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/nikon-d750-compatibility-with-raw-files
I have installed the DNG Convertor but how do I update the Camera Raw plugin in Lightroom? I am trying to update my version of Lightroom 4.4 from Camera Raw 7.4 to Camera Raw 8.4 so I can work with raw files form my XT-1.
I don’t see the 8.4 Camera Raw .lrplugin file anywhere in the downloaded file for my to install via the lightroom plugin manager. I am running on Mac by the way.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.
Aaron
The Camera Raw plugin doesn’t technically exist in Lightroom as a separate entity. The Lightroom Develop module engine is the same engine that drives Camera Raw but it is only updated by updating the entire Lightroom program. For the Fuji X-T1 you need to upgrade to LR 5.4 which is a paid upgrade to the 4.4 version you currently have.
Alternately, you can download the Free DNG Converter from Adobe, convert your X-T1 files to DNG and then open them in any version of Lightroom.
Hey guys,
I use latest lightroom and had instaled Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.7 RC while I had an option. The RC is expired (I got the popup message) and now I’m unable to view thumbnails on my mac.
Where can I download the working ACR with compatibility for Nikon D750 please?
Thank you,
Marko
If you are using Lightroom 5.7.x or higher it will process D750 Raw files just fine. The ACR update is not required if your Lightroom is up-to-date. Have you updated Lightroom?
If you have Photoshop and want it to work, install the updates for Camera Raw through your Adobe Creative Cloud app.
Haven’t you all realised that the ‘Grand Adobe Marketing Strategy’ is to make things as difficult as possible unless you buy more of their updated software. I have CS6 on a Vista 32-bit VAIO. Now I could 1/ buy a new 64-bit laptop 2/ Buy Windows 8 3/ buy into Photoshop CC, and then I can run the updated Camera RAW. Or just plod-on with what I’ve got. Have a guess what I’m going to do?
@Tony, I honestly think Adobe won’t care until they stop making money. Like McDonalds, who cares what you think, we’re serving a gazillion cheeze-ey-buggers.
I have some thoughts on this camera raw update. I’m using PS cc 2014 .Because Nikon D610 cams camera raw file asked much newer version of camera raw version i have updated it to 8.7 .on the first impression i have found that the previewing options have changed as like in the light rooms previewing options.of cause it is a slight change but as designers i think slight changers sometimes makes large impact on various areas, as in this previewing options . in earlier version has much basic previewing option but it is quick and easy to understand the defenses in before and after images. I think if adobe can keep this previewing option with newer ones is better than removing it from the plugin, because it is helpful for many designers.
adobe have done these kind of thing on its previous Photoshop cs, removing another useful shortcut from the software. (Ctrl + click on the work area = opens a new document ),
My suggestion is , it is nice to get updated with technology and other related software’s, but its very nice if they could examine about the useful items before completely removing them.
Thanks,
Dumindu 🙂
Sorry guys ,
This camera raw update also have the quick previewing option , But it has a different icon other than adding tic to preview. And place also changed.
Now its in bottom left part of camera raw window and icon is much like color balance slider ( can use Ctrl+Alt+P as short cut – for windows users)
Now camera raw 9.1 is available and it has much better efficiency and more options too.

This update does not work for me. I have downloaded all sorts of stuff from all the links posted! All I need to do is update raw in CS6. The so called ZIP file I have downloaded only contains the exe file and not the files i need to copy and paste into CS6,
Could someone help please?
Did you simply try Help>Updates… to install the updates? http://adobe.ly/PS-Up-To-Date
Hi
Thanks for the reply. Yes I did but it just freezes half way though. Maybe its a slow internet connection, i don’t know. So Following the instructions I have downloaded the file but it just contains the exe file and not the other files I need.
I have a newer version of Lightroom so I need to do this update in CS6 so i can use the “Edit in” feature.
Did you ever get this resolved?
No I didn’t. I have tried all sorts. ive sort of given now. The zip file mentioned does not contain all the files, it is just a .exe file that runs but does not install/updade
Try Camera raw 9.1.
Its available now.
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html
hope this will work for you.
I’ve just upgraded to a D750 and have been using CS6 on Vista 32 bit quite happily for uploading NEF through Camera Raw 7 from my D5100. The upgrade was quite an investment for me and it seems a great disappointment that to repeat the process for the D750 I’m facing an OS upgrade (more capital outlay) to Win7 or 8 at 64 bit to facilitate the upgrade to Camera Raw 8.7. Have I stated here the correct or necessary action……….is there any “cash free” work around to run Camera Raw 8.7 on Vista?
Unfortunately, no. Vista was End of Life-ed by Microsoft. Your best bet would be to upgrade to Win 7 or 8.
This may be the time to consider moving to the Mac. You are likely looking at replacing hardware as well as your OS and switching to CC. If you have ever considered switching to the Mac, this may be a good time to do so.
Just my .02
To: John Vaughan. Like you I have a Nikon d5100 and upgraded to a Nikon d750. The d5100 works perfectly processing Raw files on PS Elements 10 and both a Windows PC running Windows 7 and a laptop running windows 8. PSE 10 will not process raw files from the d750 on either system. The problem is not your operating system, the problem is that Adobe PSE has not provided an appropriate up-to-date plug -in. I have all the latest updates and finally gave up and switched back to using jpeg.
You can get the latest camera support for older versions of our software (including Elements 10) through the free Adobe DNG Converter. Details here: http://adobe.ly/ACRandDNG
Hi
I am using DNG converter for my raw files taken by Nikon D750. While it changes all file to make it available to use in my cam raw 6.0, I encounter some problems in the color of the final picture. After correcting the color balance/ brightness etc and output the file as JPEG, the color balance would shifts blue (for around 500K change in color) if I open the file in full screen. While the original JPEG from my camera dont encounter such problem… Anyone knows if it is due to some settings in the converter, or the cam raw, or other things? Thanks a lot!
or is it possible to skip the dng converter and have some method to open it with old cam raw version?
You probably want to convert the colorspace to sRGB when you export the JPG from Lightroom.
I presently have PE12 and understand that this can only be upgraded to ACR 8.5..
If I get PE13 that has ACR 8.6 can I then upgrade to ACR 8.7 or 9.0
Thanks, Malcolm
Yes. Elements can be updated to ACR 9. Otherwise, you can get the latest camera support for older versions of our software, including Elements 12, through the free Adobe DNG Converter. Details here: http://adobe.ly/ACRandDNG
I’ve installed the Camera RAW update three times…each time it says the install was successful, but the “about plugin” information in PS CS6 says I’m still using RAW 7.0 and my Nikon D7100 files won’t open in RAW. Any advice?
Are you following these instructions? https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html
I want to convert NEF files in DNG, but don’t know how. Advices, please?
See this nice video from Julieanne: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2011/03/why-doesnt-my-version-of-photoshop-or-lightroom-support-my-camera.html#benefitsdng
I have Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Lightroom 5 and a Canon 5D Mark III when I open PS it says Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu. But the plug-in version I need in 8.7 for full compatibility. Do I have to buy a newer version of Photoshop now? Yet another added expense!
Monica,
To update to Adobe Camera Raw version 8.7 you would need at least PS CS6 or the Creative Cloud version. I checked this doc and it indicates you only need ACR 6.7 to support your Canon 5D MK III https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html ACR6.7 requires a minimum ofPS CS5.
Alternately, you can use the free Adobe DNG Conversion tool to convert your CR2 files into DNG’s that older versions of PS and LR can read:
Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Mac
Hi
I am thinking on buying the Canon 7d mark2. I understand that I need to update to acr 8.7. I am using CS6 and the acr is 8.1.
I am on a Mac and need to update to 8.7. Please can anyone send me the direct link to update for the Mac
Many thanks
Updating information here: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/11/camera-raw-8-7-and-dng-converter-8-7-now-available.html Links are listed for both Mac and PC.
Question for Jeff T:
Is Adobe now pushing people to use the DNG Converter on older versions of Photoshop, INSTEAD of installing a version of Camera Raw? Your replies to Bert 12/8/14 9:42a and Emmett 4/21/15 2:37p telling them to use the DNG converter would seem to indicate this.
I ask because I cannot find the ACR 8.7 download to use in Elements 13, despite lots of digging. I’m wondering if Adobe is now recommending this new direction, over obtaining and installing ACR. Clicking on this old link from a photo site, which used to have the ACR 8.7 download:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/cameraraw8-7-cc.html
takes me to a “generic” ACR page which does not have any download of ACR available:
