Camera Raw 9.5 now available

Camera Raw 9.5 is now available through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and the Creative Cloud application.

As mentioned in an update to our camera support policy here, Camera Raw 9.5 is only available in Photoshop CC or later.  Customers using older versions of Photoshop can utilize the DNG Converter for continued camera support.

Camera Raw 9.5 has an updated visual interface designed to align with Photoshop CC and Bridge.

NOTE – We have a critical issue with support on OSX 10.7 and OSX 10.8.  Please continue using Camera Raw 9.4 until we issue an update that resolves the issue.

Your color scheme within Camera Raw will mimic Photoshop and Bridge, and you can change your color scheme by visiting the interface preferences within the host application.

Bugs Fixed in Camera Raw 9.5

  • Fix crash/hang in Camera Raw and DNG Converter on some Mac systems when saving multiple images.
  • Fix corruption issue that would prevent DNG images originally created by Parrot Bebop Drone devices from being opened after metadata updates.
  • Pressing the Option/Alt key while click-dragging on a perimeter handle of a Radial Filter will adjust only that side of the filter. This change in behavior was made to match Lightroom’s behavior. Previously, Option/Alt-clicking on a Radial Filter in Camera Raw would delete that filter.
  • Camera Raw Filter now displays the histogram and RGB color readouts using the assigned color space of the corresponding Photoshop document. Previously, Camera Raw Filter always displayed its histogram and RGB color readouts using the ProPhoto color space.
  • Improve quality of Boundary Warp for some panoramas.
  • Fix bug where EXIF metadata for SIGMA 50mm f/1.4 ART lens on Canon was incorrectly identified as Zeiss Milvus 50mm f/1.4.

  1. Your color scheme within Camera Raw will mimic Photoshop and Bridge, and you can change your color scheme by visiting the interface preferences within the host application.

ii actually, it does not. I have the lightgray theme in Photoshop, but when cameraraw gets called, it appears with dark interface theme and I haven’t found where I can change this.

  2. > Your color scheme within Camera Raw will mimic Photoshop and Bridge, and you can change your color scheme by visiting the interface preferences within the host application

mmmmother of God !!! why, why … what an ugly UI now … I was quite happy with the new UI in CC2015, but the new UI in ACR ? somehow it is so much worse… input fields, icons…

  3. also a question – why in the world if I hover a mouse over a slider (Windows) in ACR UI (or click the input field giving it a focus) I can’t use mouse wheel to change the value ? I never saw a reasonable explanation for that… mouse pointer is out of the image area – why not allow to use mouse wheel to change slider/numeric values that way… illogical

  4. Why on earth would you remove the filmstrip preview of RAW files??? Now I am forced to edit one photo at a time. Previously when I had 10 photos taken from the same angle with the same lighting conditions I was able edit the 1st photo, save that settings and then select the remaining 9 photos in the filmstrip and apply the settings to all 9 – viola! This is the most ridiculous removal of a feature!!!!!

    1. i agree, i was just looking to see if i could change my preference for this or something, seems SO dumb, im forced to use lightroom all the time for editing raw files now which is a pain because lightroom takes forever to load and crashes all the time on my computer. i don’t know why im paying 50 dollars canadian a month for this…

  5. So I just purchased a Canon 80D and own CS6. What do I download to be able to view these images with Abobe Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom CS5?

I cannot find it and starting to get annoyed. I have updated all updates within Photoshop/Help/Updates for all programs.

    Thank you,

    1. To use with CS6, you will need to download Adobe’s free DNG Converter tool and convert your Canon 80D CR2 file into a DNG file. The DNG will be readable in older versions of Camera Raw and Lightroom.

    2. I’m in the same boat as you as I’ve just purchased a 80D myself and am regretting it now as to view and edit my photos I have to run them through the adobe DNG converter which just takes so much longer and makes the files larger in size.

  6. Was hoping for batch processing, or a queue feature for HDR Merging. Would be great to have a queue similar to PTGui’s queue for all these great merge features.

  7. I’m seeing issues on Windows Pro 7 also with Camera Raw 9.5. Re-installed Camera Raw 9.4, restarted windows / Light Room and it starting working. That was 2 days ago. Just be informed that the issue is happening again. Does Adobe Cloud to auto updates to my subscribed applications?

    thanks

    Brian

  8. I have LR6 and PS CS6
I am running a new i-mac and could not load a camera raw file (from canon CR2) it told me I needed updated camera raw … I went to help and did the update, now my computer locks up when I try to call up CS6. Photoshop will not come all the way up and it totally locks up my computer. Please help.

  9. Since this updated I can no longer – apparently – open multiple files in camera raw. I can’t believe that this (very useful!) feature has been removed – what am I missing?

  10. I have a student who has installed the 9.5 versions of acr. It still looks like the previous version, BUT much worse is that the options to make pano’s en HDR are missing. She is using a 32bit version of windows 10..

does anyone know teh reason or the solution?

    thx

    Carlos

  11. Is camera raw 9.5 running also with photoshop elements 14 or only with photoshop cc”.
    cheers max

  12. For the most part I think the interface looks slick and more in line with the ascetic of the rest of the suite. Everything is fairly similar to the last version which I like very much, but I have a couple nit picks that are really bugging me.

    1. The sliders don’t snap to center anymore.
A surprisingly handy feature I used in my workflow. While dragging the slider if you lowered your mouse cursor below it was snap back to 0. This is nice for experimenting to get a desired effect. I can snap on and off the effect on the fly while adjusting, and if I dislike the effect its as easy as lowering the cursor. Now I must control Z or carefully place it back at zero.
Might seem like a small thing but I use this CONSTANTLY, and I will dearly miss it. This is like someone going into your darkroom and throwing out those little makeshift tools that look like trash but you’ve been using them for years!

    2. Preview on/off button moved to the bottom (you screwing up my muscle memory!)
Ok, this isn’t really a problem haha. And I really love the Before/After view button you guys added. Thanks!

  13. I just purchased a Nikon D500 and am not able to view RAW files; I have Photoshop CS5 – can you please let me know what I need to do in order to view/edit my RAW files – thank you-

    1. You have two options, Kathy. You can upgrade to the current Photoshop CC version and then you will receive the update for your ACR version that supports the newest cameras. Alternately, you can download the free Adobe DNG Converter. It allows you to convert your Nikon NEF file to a DNG that is backwards-compatible with previous versions of Photoshop and Lightroom. You can download it here: Windows: https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows or Mac: https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Mac

  14. I have downloaded Camera Raw 9.5 twice and it does not show up in Lightroom (I am on the monthly subscription plan ) so I cannot process raw shots from my Olympus Pen F which is supported by Adobe and requires Adobe Raw version 9.5 What is the reason?

    1. Go to Help>System Info… in Lightroom and double check your version number. Downloading Camera Raw does not change Lightroom. It needs to be upgraded independently. If your Lightroom doesn’t say CC2015.5.1 or 6.5.1, then you will need to update Lightroom. Since you are on a subscription plan, you should go to the Creative Cloud app on your computer and see if it shows an update pending for Lightroom.

If you run into any snags, this article may help: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/06/keeping-lightroom-up-to-date.html#lrcc2015

  15. I’m considering the purchase of Photoshop CC for Photographers. Your website talks about processing raw files using Lightroom, and then bringing the edited raw file into Photoshop CC. But I prefer to process my raw files using Adobe Camera Raw. Can I access ACR Ver 9.5 through Photoshop CC?

    1. Yes. ACR is a part of Photoshop and, if you subscribe to the Photographer’s plan, you get Lightroom and Photoshop (including ACR). The current version is 9.6.

  16. Hi,
I use to open PS and drag’n’drop raw files there.
If I do it somewhere else than PS’ title bar, ACR processes one raw at a time.
Otherwise, the filmstrip appears and seem to work as usual.

  17. I also have a canon 80d and cant open raw files I have cs6 with camera raw 9.1.1 I have tried installing 9.5.1 and 9.6.1 to no avail. ive even tried downloading adobes free dng converter as ive read on these blogs can anyone help

    1. sorry I forgot something I cant fing the dng converter. everytime I find a link it says site temporarily unavailable

  18. This page explained it all, thank you. I bought the Sony A6300 and the AWR files do not open. Someone told me in March to download Adobe DNG Converter 9.5 and I am able to highlight all the Raw files I shot and drag them to Adobe DNG and they are converted easily. It’s just a pain to have to delete all the AWR files afterwards but at least I can open my Raw format in my old Photoshop CS6 program from 2012. The support team I phoned in Adobe could not help me with any info but your page answered all my questions. Thank you.

  19. DNG converter doesn’t recognize 80D raw files. What could be the problem? Is Creative Cloud really the only option to get my raw files to Lightroom?

  20. Hello, I need to update my Adobe Lightroom (I have Creative CC15). I cannot my RAW files for my Nikon D500.
    Thanks

    1. In Lightroom, go to Help>System Info… and retrieve your Lightroom version. It must be 6.5 or CC2015.5 or later. If you have any version of 6.x installed, you can update to the current 6.x version. If you are currently subscribed to the Creative Cloud, you can update to the current Lightroom CC version.

If not, you will need to purchase an upgrade or subscribe to the cloud.

Alternately, you can use Adobe’s free DNG converter to convert your Nikon D500 NEF files to DNG so that your older version of Lightroom can read them.

  21. Hi there. I just bought the Canon 5D mark iv and NOT ONE CONVERTER works to convert the RAW files to DNG. I am super frustrated as this is a top class camera and I can not open my files. PLEASE HELP!

  22. Like Shane, Vincent and 1000’s more owner’s of a 5D4 and can’t use it to it’s full potential with Lightroom and PS. I started subscribing to CC prior to getting my new camera, expecting new camera RAW would read mt raw files. some kind of ETA would be appreciated. I can’t really sell my old camera until I get the update.

  23. When the 1DXII was released, LR/PS fully supported it from day 1. There are thousands of CC subscribers like myself that are anxiously awaiting RAW support for the 5DIV. Can you provide an ETA as the working pros like myself are on pins and needles.

  24. Hi, I think I may have an expensive issue…
Recently I purchased a new Nikon D500 and today I uploaded my test photos into my computer..
I save my photos as JPEG’s and NEF’s and discovered I can not open my new NEF files. Unfortunately I use an older version of Photoshop (CS4)… Is there an update/plug in that I can download that will allow me access to my new NEF files?
I downloaded the DNG converter but can’t seem to get it to work…
    HELP!!!
    Jay Wiprovnick

    1. You need to install DNG Converter 9.5 or later. It should convert your Nikon D500 NEF files to a DNG so that your older software can load it. Which version of the DNG converter do you have installed?

  25. Hi Rikk,
Sorry for the delay, so busy at work…
It appears that I downloaded DNG 8.7.
I will delete it and down load DNG 9.5
    THANK YOU!
    Jay

  26. I’ve spent Over $1000. dollars on Adobe Cs6 and now it will not even read RAW nif files. I will not spend another dime on any adobe products, Especially nor CC. What a ripoff adobe is.

    1. Adobe offers the free DNG converter. It allows you to convert raw files from cameras released after your previous version of the software to be converted into a DNG file. These DNG files are backward compatible to all old versions of Photoshop back to CS2 and Lightroom back to version 1.x.

By offering this converter Adobe ensures that your old software can still be used with your new camera purchases.

  27. Good morning
I have Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 5. I have downloaded Adobe DNG converter 9.5 and 9.7, but still cannot read the RAW files of Canon 80D to enable me to convert the RAW files to DNG. When I open the DNG converter and select the folder in which the raw files are stored, it just says “no items match your search.
    Please help

  28. I downloaded the DNG converter, but it creates several versions of the same file. Why and how can I fix it?
