Camera Raw 9.5.1 now available

Camera Raw 9.5.1 is now available through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and the Creative Cloud application. Our focus with this release was to add support for new cameras and also fix reported customer issues.

Please note that this is the final version of Camera Raw that will work using Mac OSX 10.7 and OSX 10.8.  Upcoming releases, starting with Camera Raw 9.6, will require the use of OSX 10.9 or later.

Thank you for all your feedback and passion for Camera Raw.

Bugs Fixed in Camera Raw 9.5.1

New Camera Support in Camera Raw 9.5.1

  • Pentax K-1
  • Sony DSC-RX10M3

Known Issue

  • Image flickers when moving an adjustment slider.  Note that this only occurs when using certain AMD graphics cards (such as 6450M and 6970M) on Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan). We are working with our partners to resolve this issue. In the meantime, you can workaround this issue by disabling “Use Graphics Processor” in Camera Raw’s preferences.

    1. resizing w/ mouse shall not lead to jumping and behavior is different between OSX and Windows10… Control the cursor consistently between platforms and consistently between resizing w/ mouse and resizing with keyboard

  1. I was disappointed by this update. I have been waiting for some time for LR/ACR to fully recognise the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art on my Pentax K3. It has and finds the lens profile, but lists the lens as just “35mm” or “Unknown lens” in metadata. This is a bit annoying when doing lens-based searches. The bug fixes for the ACR 9.5.1 include “EXIF lens name not visible for some camera models”, so I had hopes that this would be fixed. Unfortunately not.

  2. There is a regression on stack management. The number of photos currently in the stack and the index of each photo are no longer displayed in grid mode.
An other one: the little folded corner identifying the virtual copies is no longer displayed as well.

    1. I am not seeing this on my end, Xavier. I am able to see Stack Number, Index numbers and VC identifiers on 6.5.1/CC2015.5.1 on my systems. Have you tried a reboot?

  3. My design studio only offer CS6, is CameraRaw9.5.1 compatible?

        1. Camera Raw 9.1.1 is the final version available for CS6. If you have a camera released after 9.1.1 you would need to use the free DNG Converter tool to create a DNG file from your raw file so that older versions of software can access it.

  4. When I updated now on camera raw my pictures come out discolored/negative. Why??

  5. Does ACR/Lr support pixel shift resolution on the Pentax K-3II and Pentax K-1? Does it actually process all four frames? Reviewers have claimed it does not.

    1. Here is the information that was posted regarding Pixel Shift during the CC2015.1.1 release: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2015/07/lightroom-6-1-1-is-now-available.html

      * Please note the following limitations specific to camera support for the Pentax K-3 II:

Pixel shift Resolution (PSR) mode was added in this release. It is recommended to use a tripod and use a 2-second timer to minimize motion artifacts when in PSR mode.
Images created with the In-camera HDR mode are not supported in ACR and Lightroom. Users who wish to shoot multi-capture HDR in raw mode should shoot separate files and merge to HDR using ACR/Lr’s Merge feature. Click here to learn more about merging files in Lightroom.

  6. I’m having trouble settinng Raw Defaults in 9.5.1. After saving new defaults and opening the next NEF or DNG the defaults are not remembered and applied. Same camera and lens. Is there a trick to this, so simple in CS4 and older Camera Raw.

    1. It works if I only open NEF files but not opening DNG files. Is there a way to apply the new defaults while opening DNG?

  7. Issue #2 – Just looking to batch adjust my NEF files to save JPEGs, batch operation will not OPEN Raw NEF to regular photoshop, can do manually, then wouldn’t save as JPEG, except manually.
Obviously doing several things wrong……………but my method worked just fine in CS4 and the older Camera Raw.

  8. Pentax Pixel Shift in ACR 9.5.1 does not work correctly. Something happens to blue channel.

  9. When opening ACR from Bridge, the camera and lens profiles are all gone. They used to be there before the update and also all of my favorites are missing. I have a Nikon D750 and 14-24 Nikon lens and when you check enable lens profile corrections it says ” unable to locate a matching lens profile automatically”. I have gone back to previous images to make sure it wasn’t my equipment and it wont read these either. Are there any known issues for this or can I somehow reinstall ACR to see if it will fix itself? Re favourites panel, I have gone from having all my selected drives and regular folders to nothing at all.

  10. Hi guys, I see that you have added support for the Canon 80D RAW files, but the new kit lens, 18-135mm USM lens profile is still not added.

    Will that come soon?

  11. Sidebar and editing multiple RAW files needs to be brought back! How to edit RAW HDR’s and panoramas. Also what about the workflow when you need to edit numerous pictures. This is really discouraging for professionals and not only!

    Hope on an update soon!

  12. OK wishful thinking here -CR IS brilliant – better than any other adjustment plugin out there. I batch process up to 10,000 images an event – I am a Pro golf photographer. One of my best batch processing methods is control-Alt 2 (select highlights) followed by control shift i (inverse) and then auto correct levels (set on find dark and light colors). It gives me a solid adjustment to my entire folder -from where I will individually process important pictures. This method works even better using CR on Auto instead of Auto levels BUT when making the Action -the action records the Auto settings for the picture you used when making the action and does not Auto adjust each picture in the batch queue. This could easily be adjusted so that auto CR corrections on a per picture basis could be added to an action and batched.

Another cool feature to CR would be an Opacity slider for the entire correction – an overriding global adjustment that could take the edge off of auto correction.

  13. Hi, I have Photoshop CS6 (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5) . I have problem opening Tiff files/images in Camera Raw. In camera raw preferences, even after selecting option “Automatically open all supported TIFFs”, the tiff image does not open in Camera Raw. Whilst Jpeg files/images open in Camera Raw on selecting option “Automatically open all supported JPEGs”.

Also tried opening Tiff image from minibrige (by right clicking on camera raw option), the image does not open in Camera Raw.

Can you please guide to resolve this problem.

  14. Some things what I need from new ACR plug-in for today:
    1) editable keyboard shortcuts (for example we can`t even to use an exposure bar and to switch to next picture by pressing DOWN button)
    2) selectable workspace colour (because I don`t like dark colour theme)

  15. Support for Pentax K-1 in Photoshop Elements 14

I have a licensed copy of Photoshop Elements 14 which when I last ran Updates included Camera RAW 9.5

I have a Pentax K-1 camera and I can not open PEF files, I get the error message “Photoshop Elements cannot open this file” and it points me to http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Checking this web page it indicates I need Camera RAW 9.51 but when I select “Updates” in Photoshop Elements 14 it responds “Your applications are all up to date”.

How can I get Camera RAW 9.5.1?

      1. Thanks for the response but perhaps you could explain why Photoshop Elements is not updated to work with the latest Camera RAW.

Is there a technical reason or is it simply a marketing decision?

    1. how can I get camera RAW FOR PENTAX K-1 with latest photoshop have gone thru steps requested in photoshop withour results.

  16. I have Adobe CS5.5 and need a plugin for Camera Raw. I have a Canon Rebel T1i and a Canon Rebel T5i.
How do I get a plugin for Camera Raw?

    1. It should have installed and updated with your Creative Suite 5.5 which is good up to Camera Raw 6.7. The T1I only needs 2.4 and the T5I needs 4.4. If you have installed all of the updates, your Camera Raw plugin should be ready for those two cameras.

  17. can’t open 1dx mk ii files on cs6. any upcoming updates on that? cuz I don’t want to move to CC

    1. CS6 will no longer receive updates. If you don’t upgrade your option would be to use the free DNG Convert from Adobe to convert your CR2 files into DNGs that your older software can read.
