Lightroom mobile now available!

Tonight we’re announcing the immediate availability of Lightroom mobile for Android phones.

Lightroom mobile extends your existing workflows beyond the desktop, allowing you to utilize your Android phone to review and edit your images and have the changes sync back to your Lightroom catalog at home, including:

  • access images in your Lightroom catalog
  • make selects, reject unworthy photos
  • apply a preset
  • fine tunes your images using the Basic panel
  • import new photos directly from the Gallery

Once you’ve told Lightroom a collection of pictures should be sent to Lightroom mobile, the process is handled automatically and the pictures will become available on your Android phone once it is connected to the internet. Any changes you make in Lightroom mobile will be automatically synced and updated back to the Lightroom catalog on your desktop.

Lightroom mobile utilizes Smart Previews to provide raw editing functionality on the go.  Smart Previews are:

  • Based on the DNG file format
  • Limited to 2560 pixels on the long edge
  • Smaller versions original raw files
  • Can be used to make adjustments even when the original files aren’t available locally
  • Adjustments made to Smart Previews are applied to the original when the original files are available

NOTE – It may take up t0 24 hours for Lightroom mobile to be available in your local Google Play app store.

Lightroom mobile is a companion to Lightroom desktop. Please update to the latest version of Lightroom 5 using either the Creative Cloud app or by clicking on the “Help-> Check for Updates” menu option.

Lightroom mobile utilizes cloud services to sync Smart Previews and changes between Lightroom desktop and Lightroom mobile.  Lightroom mobile requires a qualifying Creative Cloud or Photoshop Photography Plan subscription:

  • Creative Cloud Photography plan
  • Creative Cloud complete plan
  • Creative Cloud Student and Teacher Edition
  • Creative Cloud for teams complete plan

Sync a collection

Lightroom mobile is organized around Collections.  Images within Collections will be synced and be available in Lightroom mobile.

Visit the Google Play store and download Lightroom mobile.  Once you login with the same Creative Cloud account, you’ll see all of your synced Collections.

Camera Raw 8.4 RC and DNG Converter 8.4 RC Now Available

Camera Raw 8.4 is now available as a release candidate on Adobe Labs for Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC on Adobe Labs.

As mentioned here, updates to Camera Raw 8 for Photoshop CS6 only include new camera support,  lens profile support, and bug fixes.  The new features listed in the release notes are only available in Photoshop CC.

This release candidate has dropped support for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OSX 10.6 for Photoshop CS6 customers.  Impacted customers can continue either update to compatible operating system or continue to use Camera Raw 8.3 for Photoshop CS6.     Photoshop CS6 customers on Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion), Mac OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) will not be impacted and will continue to receive updated camera support through future ACR 8.x dot releases.

Release Notes

Camera Raw 8.4 introduces the following new features for Photoshop CC customers:

A new before/after Preview system with side-by-side and split-view support. 

  • The main idea is a simple Before/After set of image settings.
  • The Preview checkbox in earlier versions of ACR has been replaced by three buttons in the bottom-right of the ACR main dialog. From left to right, they are:
    • Mode: Click this button to cycle through left/right and top/bottom side-by-side and split-view modes. Click-and-hold this button to bring up a popup menu for directly choosing Preview modes and accessing the Preview Preferences. Keyboard shortcut: Press Q to cycle through the Preview modes.
    • Swap: Click this button to swap Before/After settings. Keyboard shortcut: Press P to swap Before/After settings for the primary selected image only; press Shift-P to swap Before/After settings for all selected images.
    • Copy: Click this button to copy the After settings to the Before settings. This is useful for establishing a temporary “checkpoint” for your image editing session. Keyboard shortcut: Press Option-P to copy After settings to the Before settings for the primary selected image only. Press Shift-Option-P to copy After settings to the Before settings for all selected images.
  • The After preview image always reflects the current slider and tool settings (White Balance, Exposure, etc.).
  • The standard single-image view always shows the After state.
  • In the side-by-side and split-view modes, the Before settings are always shown on the left or top, and the After settings are always shown on the right or bottom.
  • The Preview Preferences dialog supports customizing the Preview modes used for cycling and some drawing options.
  • When using any tool other than Zoom and Pan (hand) in a side-by-side or split-view, changes are only allowed on the After view. Using the Crop tool will put you back into the standard single-image mode.
  • Zooming and panning on one view will automatically zoom and pan the other.

Pet Eye correction: The Red Eye tool can now correct bright pupils in animals. Select ‘Pet Eye’ from the new drop down menu in the Red Eye tool to locate and fix pet eyes.

Changes to Local Corrections:

  • Added a mechanism to quickly reset all local correction sliders (Temperature, Exposure, etc.) to zero: right-click on a local adjustment pin and choose “Reset Local Correction Settings” from the context menu. Another way is to click on a local adjustment pin, and then choose “Reset Local Correction Settings” from the flyout menu.
  • Added “Fill Image” to context menu for Radial Filter. Right-click on a radial filter adjustment pin and choose “Fill Image” from the context menu to resize the radial filter to cover the image area. (Shortcut: double-click inside the ellipse overlay for a radial filter adjustment to accomplish the same task.)
  • Added “Check All” and “Check None” buttons to Synchronize, New Preset, Save Settings, and Copy/Paste (Bridge) dialog boxes. These are shortcuts for checking all/none of the check boxes.
  • Added keyboard shortcut: When using the Crop Tool or Straighten Tool, press the X key to flip the crop aspect ratio (landscape to portrait, portrait to landscape).
  • Added explanatory note to Lens Correction “Profile” panel to indicate when built-in (metadata-based) lens profiles are automatically applied to the image.

Added context menu to Histogram pane. The context menu can be used to enable Lab color readouts, even when the Workflow Options are set to another color space (such as Adobe RGB). The context menu and also be used to toggle the shadow, highlight, and gamut clipping warnings.

Added Camera Matching color profiles (PROVIA/STANDARD, Velvia/VIVID, ASTIA/SOFT, MONOCHROME, etc.) for the following Fujifilm cameras:

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 5.3

  • Issues when upgrading catalog from previous versions of Lightroom.
  • Incorrect photos are displayed after switching away from a Publish Collection.

  • Errors when publishing photos to Flickr through the Publish Service.
  • Option + drag on Edit Pin behavior is functioning incorrectly.

  • Catalog containing images processed with PV2003 were adding a post-crop vignette when catalog upgraded to Lightroom 5.
  • Pressing the “Reset” button while holding down the Shift key caused Lightroom to exit abruptly.
  • Output Sharpening and Noise Reduction were not applied to exported images that were resized to less than 1/3 of the original image size.
  • The Esc key did not exit the slideshow after right clicking screen with mouse during slideshow playing.
  • Import dialog remained blank for folders that contain PNG files with XMP sidecars.
  • Metadata panel displayed incorrect information after modifying published photo.  Please note that this only occurred when metadata was changed after the photo was published.
  • In the metadata of exported files, the application is listed as 5.0 instead of the actual Lightroom version (such as 5.2, etc.).
  • An Error Occurs When Playing a slideshow having an image Flipped Horizontally or Vertically.

Camera 8.3 for Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6 available now

Camera Raw 8.3 is now available as a final release for Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC.  This release provides new features including Auto Levels-like functionality and Auto Straighten.  In addition, this release also includes bug fixes, support for new cameras and new lenses.  DNG Converter 8.3 is provided for customers using versions of Photoshop older than Photoshop CS6.

As mentioned here, updates to Camera Raw 8 for Photoshop CS6 only include new camera support, lens profile support, and bug fixes.  The new features listed in the release notes are only available in Photoshop CC.

  • Auto straighten: You can automatically straighten a picture in three ways: (1) double-click on the Straighten Tool button icon in the toolbar, (2) with the Straighten Tool selected, double-click anywhere within the preview image, and (3) with the Crop Tool selected, press the usual command key (on Mac) or control key (on Windows) to temporarily switch to the Straighten Tool, and double-click anywhere within the preview image.

Bugs Corrected in Camera Raw 8.3

  • ACR froze when sampling point curve on image with spot heal/clone adjustments.
  • Incorrect White Balance settings applied when synching Auto WB from source to targets.
  • On certain images, red eye removal behaved incorrectly.
  • Some Olympus E-400 raw files showed maze / checkerboard artifacts.
  • Double-click with radial filter tool was not working properly for cropped images.
  • The bit depth preference (i.e. 8-bit or 16-bit) was not “sticky” when running Camera Raw under Photoshop Elements.

Lightroom 5.3 RC now available on Adobe Labs

Lightroom 5.3 is now available as a Release Candidate on Adobe Labs.   The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers.  The final release of Lightroom 5.3 may have additional corrections or camera support.

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 5.3 Release Candidate

The following bugs that were part the Lightroom 5  have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on Lightroom 5 and we’re excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED:

Support for newly announced Casio EX-ZR1100 and EX-ZR1200 cameras

Lightroom 5.2 and Camera Raw 8.2 has full raw support for the recently released Casio EX-ZR1100 and EX-ZR1200 cameras.  If you’re already using Lightroom 5.2 / Camera Raw 8.2, there’s no further action required and they will just work with your new Casio camera.

Lightroom 5 customers can update to 5.2 using the Update Mechanism within Lightroom.  Photoshop CS6 and CC customers can update to Camera Raw 8.2 using the Update Mechanism within Photoshop.

Lightroom 5.2 now available

Lightroom 5.2 is now available as a final release on Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 5.  The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.

The Lightroom 5 Software Development Kit (SDK) is also now available.  The Lightroom SDK allows developers to extend and customize Lightroom through the use of plug-ins.

  • A Smoothness adjustment slider has been added to the Detail Panel under Color Noise Reduction. This helps to reduce low-frequency color mottling artifacts
  • Refinements to the Spot Healing Tool:
    • New Feather control
    • Auto find source method now works better for images with textured areas like rocks, bark, and foliage
    • Auto find source method now prefers source areas within the crop rectangle

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 5.2

  • Output Sharpening and Noise Reduction were not applied to exported images that were resized to less than 1/3 of the original image size.
  • Slideshow Exporting process fails for time-lapse sequences.
  • Unable to export a Book.  This only occurred after a customer deleted a background photo.
  • Catalog containing images processed with PV2003 were adding a post-crop vignette when catalog upgraded to Lightroom 5.
  • JPEG decoding produced a red colorcast.
  • Unable to scroll through photos when in Full screen mode.  This only occurs when more than 1 photo is selected.
  • “Store presets with this catalog” preference is not preserved when upgrading catalog from previous versions of Lightroom.
  • Crash when scrubbing Size slider with existing spot selected.
  • Landscape crop not maintained on portrait oriented photos
  • Pressing the Reset button while holding the Shift key results in an internal error.
  • Crash when attempting to move brush spots.
  • Gray area is shown when zooming in/out after cropping image.
  • A row of vertical artifacts appears along bottom edge of photo when applying Grain.
  • Defringe Color Sampler is inaccurate on photos that have Upright applied.
  • All of the images on a Compact Flash card did not appear in the Import Dialogue.

Camera Raw 8.2 and DNG Converter 8.2 Now Available

Camera Raw 8.2 is now available as a final release for Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC.  This release provides new features including an interactive histogram, workflow presets, and refinements to the Spot Healing Tool and Local Adjustment Brush.  In addition, this release also includes bug fixes, support for 19 new cameras and 21 new lenses.  DNG Converter 8.2 is provided for customers using versions of Photoshop older than Photoshop CS6.

As mentioned here, updates to Camera Raw 8 for Photoshop CS6 only include new camera support, lens profile support, and bug fixes.  The new features listed in the release notes are only available in Photoshop CC.

New Features in Camera Raw 8.2:

  • The Histogram is now interactive. This enables the ability to click and drag on the Histogram to adjust the Blacks, Shadows, Exposure, Highlights, and Whites sliders.
  • A Color Smoothness adjustment slider has been added to the Detail Panel. This helps to reduce low-frequency color mottling artifacts.
  • Added new “rectangle mode” to white balance eyedropper tool.  Click-and-drag with the eyedropper tool to define a rectangular pixel area.  Upon releasing mouse, Camera Raw will use all the pixels within the marked rectangle to set the global White Balance.
  • Workflow presets are now available and can be selected by context-clicking the workflow link.
  • Presets have been added to the Save dialog box.
  • Auto Exposure has been improved to be more consistent across images and across different image sizes.

Bugs Corrected in Camera Raw 8.2

  • JPEG decoding produced a red color cast.
  • Bridge always recomputed cropped image thumbnails when lens profile corrections are enabled rather than when necessary.
  • Feathering for healing brush operations were not the same strength as feathering for circular spot removals.
  • When selecting and adjusting multiple images, the Crop adjustment was not applied to the most selected image.
  • Local adjustment brush pin were not redrawing properly after moving from one location to another.
  • When using Camera Raw as a Filter in Photoshop CC, pressing the “Cancel” button on a Smart Object would rest the Smart Object to default settings.
  • There was no visual for the Heads-Up Display when control-dragging to resize a healing brush.  This only occurred when the “Show Overlay” option is turned off.

Installation instructions

Please install the Camera Raw 8.2 update using the Update Mechanism found in Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6.
