Lightroom CC 2015.4 / 6.4 now available

Lightroom CC 2015.4 and Lightroom 6.4 are now available on Adobe.com.  The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.  This release also includes a new Boundary Warp feature for Creative Cloud members.

Thank you for all your feedback and passion for Lightroom.

Introducing Boundary Warp

Stitched panoramas often have non-rectangular boundaries. There are several ways to handle irregular boundaries. The most common approach is to apply a rectangular crop. This is straightforward, but important image details near the boundary may be lost due to cropping. Another approach is to use Content Aware Fill (in Photoshop) to fill in the transparent areas outside the boundary. This can be effective, but may require multiple attempts to obtain a satisfying (smooth, artifact-free) result. It can also be expensive and requires rendering out the panorama to an output-referred(non-raw) format. Boundary Warp is a feature that provides another approach to handling the irregular boundary of panoramas. The feature analyzes the boundary and warps the image so that its edges fit a rectangular frame.  Here’s a visual example of the feature:

Lightroom for mobile 2.1, now available!

We’re excited to announce an update to Lightroom for iOS just in time for the holidays! This new version adds a bunch of new features, including:

  • iPad Pro support and support for iOS 9’s multitasking capabilities
  • Point Curve mode for the Tone Curve and the Split Tone adjustments tool
  • Support for 3D touch and a new widget to launch the Adobe built-in camera from the iOS Notification Center
  • New shoot-through presets in the Adobe built-in camera, and more.

iPad Pro — Split ImageThe launch of the iPad Pro has gotten us all pretty excited at Adobe. The ability to take such a powerful and yet compact device on the road with us, and the new opportunities it offers, has gotten us thinking about what new possibilities we can add into Lightroom for mobile. In this release, we optimized the app to work on an iPad Pro and to also support the multitasking functionality new in iOS 9. On iPads and iPad Pros, Lightroom for iOS 2.1 enables both the Slide Over functionality so that you can quickly interact with other apps without having to switch apps as well as Split View so that you can run two apps at once, such as reading a tutorial while working within Lightroom.

LrM 2.1.0 Point CurveWe are constantly working to make Lightroom for mobile more and more powerful, and this update adds in both the Point Curve mode for the Tone Curve tool, as well as the Split Toning adjustment tool. With the Point Curve mode, you can have full control over the curve, as well as direct access to each of the color channels. This level of control previously has only been available in our desktop apps, so we’re pretty excited that now you can really tweak your images anywhere. The Split Toning tool makes it possible to add a different tint or tone to both the highlights and shadows of your photo. This effect is great both creating artistic and stylistic enhancements with color photos, something that we’ve seen become a lot more popular recently, or to recreate an effect that was more traditionally used in black and white photography.

LrM 2.1.0 3D TouchSince we’re often using our mobile devices on the go, we’re always looking for ways to make it easier and faster to work with Lightroom for iOS. The 3D touch functionality introduced with the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus opened up a new realm of possibilities for speeding up interaction. With Lightroom for iOS 2.1, you can use 3D touch on the home screen to open the camera directly or in the collection view to Peek and Pop an image, to quickly check which image you’d like to edit before moving into the Loupe view. Lightroom for iOS 2.1 also adds a Notification Center widget that lets you quickly open the camera found within Lightroom for mobile. In Lightroom for mobile 2.0 we added in a brand-new camera experience, built from the ground up to provide powerful new capture experiences.

LrM 2.1.0 Shoot through presetsIn version 2.1, we’ve added in a new exciting feature that lets you preview and capture images in real-time with a preset applied. These presets take full advantage of the full processing abilities of Lightroom and apply their enhancements non-destructively. This means you can see what your photo will look like with the preset applied before you capture it, capture the photo with the preset already applied, and then adjust or even remove the effect from the photo, all without losing any quality along the way. And of course, the original image and the edits are synchronized with your other mobile devices, Lightroom on the web, and Lightroom on your Mac or PC. These shoot-through presets are one of the first ways we’ve made the Adobe in-app camera within Lightroom for mobile a truly unique and powerful experience, and we’re just getting started.

In addition to all of these major new features, we’ve added a bunch of little enhancements and improvements throughout the app. We’re continuing to work hard to come up with new, fun features that make mobile photography even more enjoyable, and look forward to sharing those new features with you in the new year.

For now though, download Lightroom for iOS 2.1 for your iPhone or your iPad and have a happy holiday and wonderful new year!

Please note – the profile for the newly added Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens is not automatically located when applying lens profile corrections.  This is a bug and we will fix it in a future release.  The workaround is to:

–        Manually select the profile and choose “Save New Lens Profile Defaults” in the Setup menu on the Profile tab. From then on, the lens should automatically select when the profile is enabled.

  • Sony DSC-RX100 III
  • Sony A7S (ILCE-7S)
  • Sony Alpha SLT-A77 II (ILCA-77M2)

Lightroom 4.3 Now Available

Lightroom 4.3 is now available as a final release on Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 4.  The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 4.3:

The following bugs that were part the Lightroom 4 releases have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on Lightroom 4 and we’re excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED:

  • Autolayout produces a Book with the correct amount of pages but without any images added. Please note that this only occurs when the filter is set to “Unused”.
  • Uploading large panorama images to Revel caused Lightroom to crash.
  • The “Unused” filter was not properly filtering images within the Book Module.
  • Lightroom hangs while changing the Exposure adjustment by typing in a numeric adjustment. Please note that this only occurs when the Enter key is not typed to confirm the adjustment and another Develop adjustment is tried. Also please note that this only occurs on Windows.
  • After creating a new folder in Lightroom, attempting to undo that folder can sometimes cause a corrupt catalog.
  • An image can be simultaneously flagged as both a Pick and Reject at the same time.
  • Using multiple colors within a single text cell within the Book Module can cause Lightroom to crash.
  • Unable to post photos to Flickr when the image filename contains an apostrophe.
  • The active Develop slider, the one controlled with + and – keys, defaults to Exposure when moving from one photo to another.
  • Catalogs from Photoshop Elements 11 would not update in Lightroom.
  • Site titles longer than 70 characters created in the Web Module can cause Lightroom to freeze.
  • Cell padding linking lost between sessions.
  • Deleting the top image in a stack causes the entire stack to disappear.
  • Tethered capture fails when turning camera off and back on. This also can occur if the camera goes to sleep and then wakes. This occurs only with Canon cameras and on Mac only.
  • Cropping an image to a small size sometimes causes the image in Develop to become blurry.
  • AVCHD video formats are not properly importing into Lightroom. Please note that this only occurred on Mac.
  • Enable Profile Corrections does not auto find iPhone 4 profile.
  • Crop doesn’t update in second monitor if navigator panel closed. Please note that this only occurred on Mac.
  • TIFF files can experience tonal shifts within Lightroom.
  • Mask overlay are displayed in filmstrip and navigator. They should only be displayed in the Develop Loupe.
  • Video files created on an iPhone 4 flickers when played in Lightroom.

Lightroom 4.2 Now Available

Lightroom 4.2 is now available as a final release on Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 4.  The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 4.2:

The following bugs that were part the Lightroom 4 releases have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on Lightroom 4 and we’re excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED:

  • Stacked photos were hidden in both the Grid view and Filmstrip. This occurred when photos get unstacked as a result of enabling auto-stacking.
  • Folder stacks with virtual copies were unstacked when moving to another folder.
  • When scrolling through the filmstrip (at somewhat fast rate), occasionally a “gray” image was displayed for an instant and then replaced by the correct image preview.
  • The Navigator Panel in Map did not pan correctly.
  • Parents and synonyms of “do not export” keywords also did not export.
  • Occasionally were unable to publish videos to Facebook
  • Audio did not play in video files after creating a slideshow that contains music (Win 7 only)
  • Image select arrow on keyword list didn’t display when keyword list contained a large number of keywords
  • Unable to edit Lightroom photos as jpegs in Photoshop Elements
  • Carriage Return in either the Title or Caption field invalidated a Flickr upload.
  • Tether capture bar disappeared after deleting photo (Win only).
  • Back Cover of Book layout had Horizontal text on spine rather than Vertical
  • Sharpening was not applied to books that were exported as JPEG files
  • Double-byte characters were not exported to Books saved as PDF files
  • Unable to type accented character in book module in LR4
  • Luminance Noise slider was unresponsive when Clarity is greater than 0.
  • Develop keyboard shortcuts (+ and – keys) no longer worked in older process versions such as PV2010

Lightroom 4.1 Now Available

Lightroom 4.1 is now available as a final release on Adobe.com and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 4.  The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom. In addition, Lightroom 4.1 introduces the following new features:

  • The ability to process HDR TIFF files.  (16, 24 or 32-bit TIFF files)  This can be useful if you have merged multiple exposures into a single 32-bit image using Photoshop’s HDR Pro.  Using the new basic panel controls can be a very effective and straightforward method of achieving an overall balance across the tonal range.
  • Additional Color Fringing corrections to help address chromatic aberration.  Click here to learn more
  • Save photobooks created in the Book Module as JPEG files
  • Publishing photos to Adobe Revel is now accessible via a Publish plugin

Bugs Corrected in Lightroom 4.1

The following bugs that were part the Lightroom 4 releases have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on Lightroom 4 and we’re excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED:

  • Point Curve adjustments made in Lightroom 3 have been restored.
  • Edit-in functionality has been restored to external applications including Adobe Photoshop and Nik plugins
  • Addressed performance issues in Lightroom 4, particularly when loading GPS track logs, using a secondary monitor, and the controls within the Develop module.
  • Ability to update DNG previews and metadata for more than 100 photos has been restored.
  • This update allows for improved viewing of subfolders and stacks in folders with a large number of photos.
  • It was possible that a layout of a saved book could be lost after quitting Lightroom 4.
  • Adjustments made in the Develop module were not properly being reflected to photos that have been laid out in the Book Module
  • Postscript Type 1 Fonts do not appear in the Font menu within the Book module.
  • Clarity adds grey tinting to 100% white tones.

Known Issues in Lightroom 4.1:

  • Double byte fonts such as those found in Chinese and Japanese characters are not being exported to PDF or when published to Blurb.
  • The Revel Publish Service will delete photos from a carousel. This occurs when the customer asks Lightroom to delete the carousel and then cancels out of the confirmation dialogue box.
