6.14 now available – last perpetual update of Lightroom

The goal of this release is to provide perpetual customers additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.  You should only update to Lightroom 6.14 if you are currently holding a license to our perpetual product.

Please note, there will be no additional updates after 6.14 for the perpetual, standalone version of Lightroom.  You can check out this blog post for more information when this was announced earlier.

As always, new cameras are supported for legacy versions of Lightroom, Photoshop, Bridge, After Effects, and Photoshop Elements through the free Adobe DNG Converter.

For native camera raw support and ongoing updates with new features try out Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC. These features include color and luminance range masking and the new auto.  This along with other future imaging and performance enhancements are automatically included with a membership.

Find the latest available downloads of Lightroom 6 here. If you have a Creative Cloud plan of any type, you do not need to purchase Lightroom 6.

You can also find the new cameras and lens profiles that are now supported with 6.14.

Thanks!

Announcing the December Update to Lightroom

Today we’re proud to release updates to the entire Lightroom CC ecosystem, including for Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and the web, as well as updates to Lightroom Classic CC and Adobe Camera Raw. We’ve added support for new cameras and lenses, and added some great new features.

Please note that we are moving to a new blog home.  Check it out here

New Auto Settings, powered by Adobe Sensei

Auto has been completely reworked to create better results, every time. Using an advanced neural network powered by Adobe Sensei, our artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning platform, the new Auto Settings creates a better photo by analyzing your photo and comparing to tens of thousands of professionally edited photos to create a beautiful, pleasing image.  The new Auto is available ecosystem wide, including in Lightroom CC, Lightroom CC for iOS, Lightroom CC for Android, Lightroom CC on the web, Lightroom Classic, and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).

The December update includes other great features across the ecosystem:

Lightroom CC on Desktop

Tone Curve

The Tone Curve is one of the most popular tools used by photographers for advanced control over the tonality, contrast, and color balance of an image. You can use either the Parametric Curve or the Point Curve modes to tune the tonality and contrast of the image, and the Red, Green, and Blue modes to adjust the color balance and stylize your image. The Tone Curve lives next to the Auto button in the Light panel — check it out and let us know what you think.

Split Toning

Split Toning allows you to stylize your photo through color tints in the highlights and shadows of your image. You can use the Split Toning tool to simulate traditional black and white tints and toners like sepia or selenium toners, simulate printing on colored paper, or create a modern stylization on color images. Split Toning lives in the Effects panel.

Change Capture Time

Lightroom CC now enables you to adjust the capture time, for both single photos as well as a set of photos, providing relief for those times that you forgot to change your camera’s time or time zone settings. Select a photo (or series of photos) and use the pencil icon in the Info panel to change capture time. Lightroom CC will update the capture date and make sure that your photos show up on the right day and time in the organize view, making it easier to find your photos when you need them.

Full Screen View

View your photos in full screen by using either the F key or by navigating to View-> Detail Full Screen.

Android

In addition to the new Auto described above, we added the following to Lightroom CC on Android:

  • App Shortcuts — For Android Nougat and later devices, tap and hold on the app icon to quickly launch the app into popular modes.
  • More control for managing storage.
  • Resolved an issue that prevented some Huawei customers from importing images.
  • Resolved an issue that caused a crash for some Pixel 2 customers on export.
  • Resolved a problem that prevented some Samsung customers from installing the previous version.
  • Bug fixes and speed improvements.

iOS

In addition to the new Auto described above, we added the following to Lightroom CC on iOS:

  • Watermarking on export — Create and customize a text based watermark for use when exporting your image from Lightroom CC on iOS.
  • Improved quality to HDR capturing.
  • Bug fixes and speed improvements.

Lightroom Classic and Adobe Camera Raw

In addition to the new Auto described above, we’ve made a refinement to the Color Range Masking tool.  Based on your feedback, we’ve made it easier to remove individual sample points. You can do this by holding down the Alt (Win) or Option (Mac) key while using your mouse to select the sample point.  To learn more, check out the “What’s New in Lightroom Classic” page.

Lightroom Classic CC also now supports tethered capture with the Nikon D850 camera.

An update to Lightroom 6 for perpetual licensed customers for new camera support will be available on December 19th.

We’ve excited about the December update, and can’t wait to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Thanks!

Lightroom 6.13 now available

The goal of this release is to provide perpetual customers additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.

A few clarifications for this release:

Do I need upgrade to Lightroom 6.13 when Lightroom Classic CC  has already launched?

You should only update to Lightroom 6.13 if you are currently holding a license to our perpetual, non-subscription-based product.

Is this the last upgrade of Lightroom perpetual product?

As we align our investments in the direction of supporting our subscription-based products, the last version of Lightroom 6 will be coming out towards the end of the year.   If there is a camera not supported in Lightroom 6, you can use the DNG converter before importing your images into Lightroom 6.

As a perpetual license customer, can I try out Lightroom Classic in tandem with Lightroom 6 to see if I am interested in upgrading?

Yes.  We highly encourage you to try out Lightroom Classic to get the additional performance benefits and feature enhancements launched recently and to come.  If you are interested in trying out Lightroom Classic, while still keeping a version of Lightroom 6 in tandem on your desktop, check out Lightroom Classic CC 7.0.1.

ACR 10 is now available

(c) B. Winston Hendrickson

Camera Raw 10 is now available as a final release available in the Adobe Create Cloud desktop app.

Range Mask

Range Mask works within the structure of the existing local adjustment tools to give you more precision with your local adjustments. One way to think of it is that Range Mask is a modifier that can be applied to a local adjustment, allowing you to create more precise selections with less hassle.  Range Mask is designed to be easy to use, and the resulting mask can be further refined by nudging the sliders.

Range Mask has two different modes to address two different types of color/tone-based masks: Color Range Mask and Luminance Range Mask.

Usage Instructions:

  1. Open an image into the Camera Raw plugin
  2. Select one of the local adjustment tools (Local Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, Radial Filter) and make an initial mask of your intended selection area.
  3. From the Range Mask option, select either Color or Luminance.
    • Color: Use the Eyedropper to select the colors you’d like to include in your selection.  You can select up to 5 different colors using the Shift + click method with the eyedropper.  Alternatively, you can sample a range of colors, even completely different colors, by dragging out an area with the eyedropper. Once selected, you can further refine your selection using the Amount slider.
    • Luminance: Use the Range and Smoothness sliders to adjust your mask and fine tune.
  4. Use the local adjustment sliders to make the desired edits to your images.

Check out Julieanne Kost’s video on the new Range Mask feature in Camera Raw 10.

Support for the Nikon D850 and Lightroom

Today we released an update to the ACR plug-in and DNG Converter to support the new Nikon D850 proprietary format and a handful of Nikon lenses. We plan to have an equivalent Lightroom update soon. In the meantime, we understand that this represents a significant inconvenience for Lightroom customers with a Nikon D850 and ask for your patience while we work to deliver a high-quality update.  In the interim, you can use the free DNG Converter on Nikon D850 raw images prior to Lightroom import.

What happened to Camera Raw 9.11:

Lightroom CC 2015.12 now available

The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.

Today, we also released versions of Lr for iOS and Android that provide updated camera support.    Check them out here.

A few clarifications for this release:

What happened to Lightroom CC 2015.11/6.11?

Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw releases are tightly coupled as both products share the Camera Raw imaging technology.  As a product team, we decided to skip Camera Raw version 9.11 and instead use 9.12 due to the unfortunate events that occurred on that day. In keeping our version naming consistent, Lightroom is releasing CC 2015.12 / 6.12.

Will performance enhancements that I requested via the survey here be in this release?

Lightroom CC 2015.12 / 6.12 does not include performance improvements based on your survey responses.  We appreciate your candid feedback on Lightroom performance, and are working on several projects to address your concerns.
