Lightroom mobile 1.3 for iOS is here!

Lightroom mobile 1.3 for iPhone and iPad is now available as an update in the App Store.  The goal of this update is to provide new features and bug fixes for issues identified in previous versions of Lightroom mobile.

Release Notes

New Features:

  • Edit images faster by copying image adjustments and pasting them onto another photo
  • Easily find your favorite images !  The new Segmented view in Collections gives you a different way to view and engage with your photos.
  • Want to pass your device around the family to look at your photos? With Presentation Mode, you can do that without worrying about your flags, ratings and adjustments being accidentally changed.

Bug fixes:

  • Abnormal exit that occurred when downloading images for offline use and account token expires
  • Issues creating collections after initial login
  • Abnormal exit when editing account settings
  • When opening an image in other applications, Lr mobile incorrectly provided an .ig file instead of a jpeg file.  This only occurred with Dropbox and Adobe Reader.
  • Unable to open smart previews from certain Fuji RAF raw files

Update on OS Support for Next Version of Lightroom

We are hard at work on the next major release of Lightroom, and wanted to share some information on operating system requirements in order to give everyone time to prepare for the release.

In order to leverage the latest operating system features and technologies, Lightroom 6 will require Mac OS X 10.8 or above, or a 64 bit version of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. Focusing our work on more modern operating systems and architectures allows us to spend more time adding functionality requested by users, including additional advanced imaging features and improving general application performance.

If you are on Mac OS X 10.7, or a 32 bit version of Windows, you will continue to be able to install and run Lightroom 5 and use Lightroom mobile. However, you will not be able to install Lightroom 6 until you upgrade to a supported operating system.

If you are currently running Mac OS X 10.7, Apple offers a free upgrade (here) to a more current operating system. For Windows users, Microsoft has a how-to reference (here) to help you determine whether you are running a 32 or 64 bit version of Windows.

Lightroom mobile for Android phones now available

Tonight we’re announcing the immediate availability of Lightroom mobile for Android phones.

Lightroom mobile extends your existing workflows beyond the desktop, allowing you to utilize your Android phone to review and edit your images and have the changes sync back to your Lightroom catalog at home, including:

  • access images in your Lightroom catalog
  • make selects, reject unworthy photos
  • apply a preset
  • fine tunes your images using the Basic panel
  • import new photos directly from the Gallery

Once you’ve told Lightroom a collection of pictures should be sent to Lightroom mobile, the process is handled automatically and the pictures will become available on your Android phone once it is connected to the internet. Any changes you make in Lightroom mobile will be automatically synced and updated back to the Lightroom catalog on your desktop.

Lightroom mobile utilizes Smart Previews to provide raw editing functionality on the go.  Smart Previews are:

  • Based on the DNG file format
  • Limited to 2560 pixels on the long edge
