    1. Please please please just make it run faster! How many times does the entire Lightroom community have to tell you this?!

      1. You’re probably not using a Mac Pro with 6 cores from 2013

        Mine runs fine!

        (I am very picky!!!)

        1. you should know that LR has big problems with speed.
that your system runs fine means zilch.

my 6 core system runs circles around your apple crap.
but LR doesn´t even make real use of 6 cores.

it´s bad coding from adobes side.
and sometimes systems with identical hardware behave completely different when it comes to LR performance.

          1. Peter,
Our engineering staff is attempting to contact you to obtain more information about your system, operation, and issues. Can you contact me via message so I can tell you what we would like to obtain from you?

      1. I have 8 core 16 threaded and 32gb fast ram and ssd disks and it runs slower with each update ( I have tried clean install, still slow). Alien skin runs so so fast, so I can not understand what issues Adobe has?

        1. My macbook 15″ 2011 runs lightroom faster than my desktop 6700k 4ghz with SSD and 32GB 2400mhz ram.

          #unusable

          1. I am having the same issues – painfully slow (only 36 photos downloaded since I went to work 9 hours ago!!!). Running an:
            iMAC 27″ (late 2013)
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
            Memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB
Downloading to a 8TB external drive with over 5TB remaining storage.
I have better luck with my Macbook Pro 13″, which isn’t near so robust. (2.8 GHz Intel Core i7; 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphic card Intel Iris 1536 MB. Downloading to a 1TB portable external drive.)

What gives???? I’m getting beyond frustrated.

      2. Absolutely what everyone has said here. Just a little bit more speed in bringing up previews and when making basic edits to a photo and lightroom would be complete!

  1. please enhance the speed so it is usable on a 6 core system with 32 GB ram and a nvme SSD.

really…. lightroom is as slow as my grandma…. you guys at adobe should be ashamed.

  2. More speed please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please Please Please. Library ok but develop is horrific on a hotrod PC. I can run Photoshop, Premiere and Aftereffects all at once without a hiccup. But crop many images in LR? Crawling guys. I need to be able to edit 1000s of images quickly

  3. Speed. Speed. Speed.

LR is getting to be as much use as a chocolate fireguard in hell due it’s slowness. You seriously NEED to start sorting it out or you’re going to lose customers to the myriad of upcoming RAW converters.

  4. i really ask myself if some people from adobes LR team have worked with LR.
i mean really worked for a day and with todays 40-50MP files.

i have to close and open the program every 30 minutes or it is completely unusable.

and my system is basically the fastest 6 core system you could assemble right now.
with 32 GB ram and M.2 SSD´s for the catalog and as work disk.

and don´t get me started with the lousy GPU “support”.
that thing is broken and often makes thing worse.
it´s a laughable that the advice you read most often in the adobe LR forum is to disable the GPU support.
even when people have the latest generation GPU´s.

hire some coders who know their job!!
not just some fancy people who do some experimental stuff you show at adobe MAX but that never gets finished or good enough to be uses in production (shake reduction etc.).

    1. Good Comment. I think I’m about to give up too, especially after updating to Lightroom CC 2015.10.1/Lightroom 6.10.1. Also, Photoshop CC latest update has slowed down to unusable speeds.

    2. Best part is their rented and standalone versions are identical. No more second class user.

  5. Thanks for the prompt update!! Will the Sony A9 tether to Lightroom now or is that another update? Thanks.

  6. If you want speed in raw editing do what I did switch to Capture One fast and better image quality…slight learning curve but once you get through that get ready to rock and roll….

  7. OK so I’m lucky, by using Smart Previews and a supported GPU card Lightroom runs fast enough with 24MP files. Capture One PRO, even ON1 Photo RAW give me the same user UX as Lightroom. With 36MP, 50MP and 100MP raw files I see a slowdown with all raw processors.

The best way to improve speed on your current computer is putting Photo Mechanic at the front end of your workflow. Or invest in a newer machine, higher CPU speed gives a noticeable speed bump for any camera raw software.

With so many different camera raw workflows, YMMV!

  8. Blackmagic Design just made Resolve run 10x faster with a reworking of the core code. Surely Adobe can TRY to do something similar.

  9. Lightroom is still a good piece of Software. Overall Concept is nearly unbeatable. But…
    – Speed lags behind Capture One Pro 10.1 (felt like 5-10 time slower)
    – Picture Quality of Rendering Engine lags behind Capture One
    – Tethered Shooting is quite a Joke in Lightroom compared to Capture One
Adobe should focus on core competences of a RAW Developing Software – named the RAW developing. I don’t use MAPS, don’t use BOOKS. But I want to Import, organise and develop my pictures.

Adobe: Please make Lightroom “great again”. Focus on re-engeneering the ACR Module, re-programm multithreading support, “heal” garbage collection, implement OPEN CL instead of OPEN GL Rendering Support and allow “kumulative presets” like Capture One can. Today’s Computers are so fast – why your software isn’t it?

    1. I agree on most but could you all please explain to me how tethering lags “so much behind”.

LR: I shoot and photo is instantly displayed in the catalog in LR. Can use presets, can do watch folder,…
C1: I shoot and photo is instantly displayed in the catalog in C1. Can use styles, can do watch folder,…

What else is there? Camera control is available with LR and with C1 at least for all my Canon bodies.

  10. Wow, reading the comments helps me realizing it is not my win laptop which is so bad, but the product that I, and many many others, pay 10$/month..

It is really terribly slow. OMG, I almost bought a new laptop because of that, now I won’t.. Thanks for the comments!

  11. Offline installer link pls. For me the creative cloud app does not work at all, it keeps repairing itself, but not succeeding. Thanks!

      1. Thanks for your reply. Is LR 6 LS11 (what I found under your link) equal to LR cc 2015.10.1? I doubt, but if you say it is the same I am open to install on top of my 2015.10.

          1. No success. I could not upgrade from 2015.10 to 2015.10.1, not with patch, not with CC desktop app. Now I uninstalled and cannot put it back either. My email here in the chat is valid, please contact me. Thanks

  12. My IMPORT function is now FU&^ed, keep getting ‘NO IMAGES TO IMPORT’ and then when I close and reopen to rectify the issue the images have actually imported but not to where I pointed them to!… I am a working professional wedding photographer and this update has just stressed me right out! Well done ADOBE!

  13. 1. make it faster
    2. make it faster
    3. make it faster
    4. Buy Capture one and implement their raw processing quality and speed into lightroom.
    5. You still do not process dark frame calibration data to reduce noise in raw files that contains it.

  14. No need to change anything…Lightroom works great for me. Most of the people posting messages merely like to complain. Keep up the good work.

    1. I should think people have better things to do than complain needlessly and you comment is insulting to us who have worked with Adobe products for over twenty years and know how the performance should add up. ANNOUNCEMENT:Lightroom CC 2015.10.1/Lightroom 6.10.1 is painfully slow on all of my machines and myself and three of my photogs really want to dump Adobe all together. It all comes down to productivity.

    1. 2) Better FujiFilm X-Trans support! (Buy Iridient Digital!)
Completely with you on this one, please!!!!

  15. Cool! Now need RNI to add a9 support and profiles to their RNI All Films for Lightroom and I buy this camera 🙂

  16. Lightroom is outdated; and Adobe seems content to leave it be. Most Creative updates are more for designers, while one particular competitor has produced software with a Photographer Focus, that they continue to improve. The nail is almost in the coffin for Lightroom. Elements is probably a better choice all the way around for Photographers. About speed, the GPU problem they admit to is not the only GPU issue; not all NVIGIA cards work with Lightroom, even though Photoshop cc will utilize the GPU on all of them. Adobe tech support’s attitude is get a different card.

    1. they focus on billions of mobile user who shot images to be forgotten after 2 seconds.
look what was released lately.. mobile crap

for desktop a few camera and lens updates.

that´s not enough adobe!!! get your stuff together!!

    2. This update, Lightroom CC 2015.10.1/Lightroom 6.10.1, is the nail in the coffin for me!

I need PRODUCTIVITY. I need an app that is focused on the photography and not web, books, slideshows, etc.. There are other apps that do all of that stuff much better than Adobe.

  17. Adobe what the hell are you guys doing. LR 4 is so much faster and better from an experience standpoint. To bad 1Dx Mark II and 5d Mark IV is not support else i never would have upgraded.
You acknowledged speed and performance issues a while now but still no slight change (newest macbook fully specced on brand now catalogs are just horrible slow!! )

  18. My LR won’t update via the CC app …. it says I am up to date with 2015.9 ….. where can I download the new LR directly?

  19. The latest update of the app will not load on iPad Air I or iPad mini. The message is: This app is not compatible with your device. Any advice?

    1. Make sure you aren’t attempting to install the iPhone version of the software.
Also make sure that your iOS version meets the minimum requirements.

May as well buy Pixelmator while you’re at it and cover both ends of the imaging space by replacing long in tooth Photoshop. 😉

  21. As I read Adobe’s notes on the problem, doing either Workaround 1 (disabling GPU acceleration) OR Workaround 2 (rollback AMD driver 17.4.4 released 4/23/17 to prev version) would fix the problem. Workaround 1 works for me. I then tried Workaround 2 (rollback went to AMD driver 17.4.3, which was all that was available on my system), and re-enabled GPU acceleration (and restarted LR, of course).
BUT Workaround 2 did NOT work. I am still getting crashes of LR when I switch from Library to Develop mode.
I am going back to disabling GPU, reluctantly. I don’t want to search out an even-earlier AMD driver.
[pc Win 10 build 1703 updated; LR CC 2015.10.1; AMD driver 17.4.3 (22.19.157.3) of 4/10/17]

  22. Just installed the updates for LR CC. Ugh! I can only view three images at a time in library or develop mode. The rest are grayed out. When I shut down LR I’m now getting an error message on my catalog backup as well. Just started running the repair/install on the whole shebang and it’s taking hours! I’m a real estate professional photographer with a brand new, fast, PC. Updates shouldn’t be this terrifying to run!! Any advice appreciated

    1. Tacey,
We would like to get more information from you. Can you contact us directly or post additional system information here in the comments?

  23. LR CC2015 is Ok when my MacBook Pro has a fresh reboot and LR is 1st launched, after a while LR becomes laggy and gets real slow even if I have applied all the suggested settings found on the web.
This becomes frustrating when dealing with large collections.
I don’t see that developer’s are working on this issue.
Considering moving to capture one if no valid response is obtained from Adobe staff

  25. Have you fixed the tether problem with the Nikon D810. Used to work but the previous update changed that.

  26. I’m with everyone about the slowness of Lightroom

I have an i7 running at 4.4Ghz, 32GB RAM, Windows 10, NVIDIA GTX 760. Can I also get the engineers to help me figure out what’s wrong?

  27. I have the same problem, been really slow the last couple of weeks, and please fix AMD GPU bug.

I have an i7 4770k cpu, 32 GB RAM and an AMD Radeon R9 390 8GB graphic cards and Win 10.

  28. Ever since I upgraded, I’ve had nothing but crash after crash. I can no longer import. Is there a way to go back to an older version that actually works?

  29. Lightroom speed issue needed to be solved, it’s been long time demand. Hope Adobe team will try their best on the next update.

  30. I honestly don’t think that any LR devs actually use this software. If they did, they would have solved the urgently needed performance increases by now. I can’t believe they’re still peddling this crap and asking for the paying community to keep troubleshooting on their behalf.

DEVS: take this thread, print it out and fax it to your CEO. Maybe stock value shouldn’t be the only metric worth looking at.

    1. J. Bedford – as an actual user of the software (Both Mac and Windows) I can assure you that we do use the software. Also, I can assure you that not everyone has performance issues (I do not, for example on either Mac or Windows). That said, it also does not mean we do not take reports from some users of grave performance issues lightly. We are working with individual users currently on improving performance in a number of areas.

      1. You lost all credibility when you said not everyone has performance issues. Of course if someone has 100 pictures they took with their 6 MP Rebel camera, they won’t have performance issues, but do you actually have 10’s of thousands of photos taken with a D810 in your catalog and you still don’t have performance issues?

        Please.

  31. Hello Rikk,
I’want to buy the LR6 standalone version. I’ve a couple of questions.
    a) Are the Fujifilm filmsimulations (ie. Provia, Astia Classic chrome etc.) also available in LR6 ?
    b) Same question for Photoshop Elements 15 (ACR).
    c) Can LR 6 upgrade to LR 6.10 ?

    Thanks in Advance.

    1. With the exception of features introduced after 6.0’s release (Dehaze, Boundary Warp, etc), all camera, lens and tethering support is available in 6.x.
Elements 15 should be compatible through ACR version 9.10.
Any version of Lightoom 6.x can update to 6.10 at no charge.

  32. Am I the only one experiencing problems with the selective colour adjustement tool… the one where you can click on a specific colour and pull up and down to either saturate / desaturate, hue etc….
I use this feature on a daily basis and nothing happens when i click on the little target tool!!!

  33. Having an issue since last week’s LR 2015.10.1 build 1117303 update. The central image in the Develop module no longer displays an image, just a gray box. If I switch back to Library module an image will appear but if I go back to the Develop module, again it’s blank where an image should appear! The image still shows in the Navigator side panel, and will show the zoom box if I click on the main picture, but nothing changes on the main image. Is this a known issue? It’s the same issue with both Canon CR2, tiff, and jpg file types. I’ve tried logging out of CC and back in again with no change.

    1. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the Lightroom and Creative Cloud desktop apps, but still had the same issue. I looked through my laptop display settings and drive versions and everything is current. I then found the “Use Graphics Processor” setting in Lightroom’s Preferences Performance tab, and it was enabled. Once I disabled this the Develop module work area was visible again and I was able to process my pictures.

  34. Lightroom CC 2015.10.1 runs slower than an old dog.
    I have a top-of-the-line 2016 MacBookPro with TouchBar, 16GB RAM, 2.9Ghz – Working with RAW images from a Nikon D810.
Have come from Aperture (where I had multiple 100,000+ image libraries), I was hoping for a half-way decent alternative, but every LR session is an exercise in frustration. I understand LR staff is reading this blog. Ple
ase, when will update this app out of 2015 and into the present? Especially when many of your competitors seem to have no problem running circles around LR.
Let us hope that the reason we are all using 2015.10 in June of 2017 is that the developers are putting the finishing touches on a complete re-write of the application. I can see of no other reason.

  35. Lots of bugs that were not there in the previous version 🙁
local adjustments such as brish wont copy and paste into a new pic properly (vertical shots)
hue adjustment wont select unless i click it some 5 times or more
the white balance temperature adjustment has been buggy as well one time showing 1-100 instead of the kelvin scale
so annoying. please please fix soon.

    1. OR at least a way to revert to the previous LR version without having to delete and re-install the program would be fine.

  36. I’m having the same issues. JUST downloaded the latest update and wah lah… BIG TIME LATENCY. Almost unusable. As a matter of fact it IS unusable. I didn’t have much trouble before this most recent release. I thought maybe I had gotten some kind of virus… cleaned up my disk… I have a brand new laptop with all the bells and whistles… i7, SSD. My arms are up in the air

  37. After install the latest Version of Lightroom to 6.10.1 under Windows 10 (with Cretors update) i have an issue in the Card module. When i move or zoom the Card then appears an Message “Card is offline” and after some seconds the correct window appear. But when i move the Card then appears the message again and so on. My Firewall accept lightrooms Internet Access. Can everybody help ?

  38. I am relatively new with LR although I started 2 years ago. The complaints ablout slowness then and I still see a lot of similar complaints. I just got Creative Cloud and in the initial stages of set up and hoping to not see the slowness I experienced some time ago.

I have read extensively about many ways to set up lightroom to take advantage of its power and also what type of system is needed to maximize the enjoynment and productivity of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop in particular….but Adobe in general.

It is my observation that Adobe indicates a base line of the specs needed to use LR and Photoshop and people ( legitimately ) expect to install the products and have t work as indicated.

In some situations I suspect that happens…maybe they have low usage or maybe the settings on their computer are tweaked just right . I wonder if the slowness and the complaints are from high volume photos users in general.

I am looking to get a new machine and want to with reasonable certainty get one that will fulfill my photo processing needs for years to come…and I talking about perhaps the average photographer and not the super high valume user.. I know that is very general but I think the average person gets my meaning.

I am saying that IF it is the Super High Volume User that is having the problems with slowness… then there may be ways to better utlize the system.

I read about one guy who archives all his original files every 3 months onto offline disk(s) and only refers to them when he specifically wants to make changes or export one from the past…..and finds that works well for him. I know the solution is much simpler than that..but that is one that seemed sensible and avoided an issue of having too many files in ones active library.

I am looking for perhaps some “lessons learned” by those who have had problems but have found ways to overcome them and either waiting for Adobe for solutions or are managing to use Lightroom etc successfully and productively and would like to share some simple things for those who understand the complaints but could use some basic guidelines or tweaks to the basic instructions that Adobe publishes…..but people perhaps have found that there are easier ways or more improved ways to get a much better result…..from true experience.
    Charlie

  39. It is a real crime that you charge for Lightroom when the whole world cries about how slow Lightroom is and you don’t correct the problem to which you are 100 % aware. I can’t even import images because the my computer overheats form increased cpu usage. I have been an Adobe user since Photoshop 4 and this problem with Lightroom is inexcusable and borders on being criminal.you continual to issue new releases without correcting this problem. Get it right will ya?

  40. I have got into the habit of postponing upgrading to the latest version of Lr for a week or two or three after new releases. I was just about to upgrade, but decided to read the comments here first, in case I should watch out for anything.

I was horrified to read so many negative posts in relation to performance. Should I upgrade or delay for the next release.

  41. Any info on a timeline for a LR update to include the new Nikon D7500? My Mac and LR5 cannot work with the NEF or JPGs from this camera yet. I have a workaround via Nikon Capture NX-D but it’s time consuming. Thanks.

  42. This latest update has rendered LR unusable for me. Zooming in to a photo takes 20-30 seconds. Applying or even rolling back a preset can take up to a minute with Windows reporting the application is Not Responding. Even opening the Preferences window takes 10-15 seconds. Attempting to move the LR workspace to another screen is like dragging it through taffy. Every single operation is sluggish. I have an 8-core AMD with 16GB RAM, cache size at 100GB and GPU acceleration disabled. There is no reason this should be happening, and indeed it wasn’t before this update and doesn’t for any other program I run. This is now a serious loss of productivity for me.
    Please fix this.

  43. I already have two tickest open, I am Creative Cloud client, uninstalled and installed 4 times the entire Adobe suite, Creative Cloud etc. I re-installed LR again, I downloaded it via direct link Lightroom 6.10.1 / 01.10.2015, but the problem arises when I try to run the update. It gives me an ERROR update message, I do not know what to do, I tried many options but nothing. I can not see the Raw of Canon 5d Mark IV. Before I worked perfect with LR but now I can not. I do not understand why the updates are not automatic. Are we supposed to pay for that?

All the above mentioned options I already tried them 🙁

  44. I’ve moved over to CaptureOne for some of my client work (because it needs a quick turn around). LR is HORRIBLY slow (I’ve actually rolled back this version to the prior one, which is still slow but a little better, this one was just molasses).

PLEASE give us an update that speeds up the processing. Something is wrong. At least let us know you’re wanting to change things.

BTW: running a 2015 macbook pro decked out. It’s super fast with everything else. LR just bogs the whole thing down.

  45. Can someone PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE give me an email address that will help me get thru to adobe support :
Wanting to know how to get to download for latest LIGHTROOM version – no fum having to work with V5.7.1 – I’m not asking for them to save my soul, just to point me in the right direction to get what i’ve been paying for for the last year !!!!!!

  46. Lightroom 2015 10.1 keeps crashing my MacBook Pro 2016 touch bar, have had the laptop tested by apple they ran a lot of tests! Conclusion Lightroom is the culprit.
Overtime I try and batch adjust my images or try to process more than 5 files it crashes, has done it while just browsing through the shoot with a client and crashed 4 times before we got to the end of showing them the shoot, did not look good!! having to restart everything.

The apple guys said that adobe might be able to give me a patch to download to fix this issue.

I also tried to have a live chat with adobe it took an hour for your tech guy to get no where! he kept asking for the serial number of my Lightroom which I told him numerous times I have a cloud account. sent loads of screen grabs and they where very un helpful!

I use this for my work and I am currently un able to deliver the images my clients are requesting, please help!!!!

  47. I’m using a Intel i7-4770 CPU with 32 GB memory and AMD Radeon HD7900 Series video card with 2 x Samsung SSD 250 GB and 5 x WD 3TB in a HW Raid configuration and I suffer no slowness of opening up image files ranging anywhere from 25MB to 2GB image files. All this plus having LR, PS and other apps open while spotify is playing.
My opinion is when designing a computer think about what you want to be doing everyday and build your system to handle the load. I running the latest LR and PS and other plugins. I may have a hiccup once in about 3-6 months. Other than that the system stays on for weeks on end. From what I’m seeing others complaining about I would look at my hardware first.

  48. MAKE IT FASTER PLEASE!
forget about all the other things for a while. lightrooms functionality is phenomenal. but you have to speed it up again. i’ve got the newest macbook pro for about 2000 bucks and cannot work smoothly with this software. i just work with images out of a D750, this shouldnt be so hard for lightroom to handle!

Please hear, what most of the users are begging for!
