Camera Raw 9.4 Now Available

Camera Raw 9.4 is now available through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and the Creative Cloud application.

As mentioned in an update to our camera support policy here, Camera Raw 9.4 is only available in Photoshop CC or later.  Customers using older versions of Photoshop can utilize the DNG Converter for continued camera support.

Introducing Boundary Warp

Stitched panoramas often have non-rectangular boundaries. There are several ways to handle irregular boundaries. The most common approach is to apply a rectangular crop. This is straightforward, but important image details near the boundary may be lost due to cropping. Another approach is to use Content Aware Fill (in Photoshop) to fill in the transparent areas outside the boundary. This can be effective, but may require multiple attempts to obtain a satisfying (smooth, artifact-free) result. It can also be expensive and requires rendering out the panorama to an output-referred format. Boundary Warp is a feature that provides another approach to handling the irregular boundary of panoramas. The feature analyzes the boundary and warps the image so that its edges fit a rectangular frame.  Here’s a visual example of the feature:

Fixed Bugs and Other Changes:

  • Fixed issue where vertical panoramas created using Merge could appear with the wrong orientation.
  • Addressed a bug that would ignore model-specific custom default settings for some cameras, including some Leica and Sony models.
  • Corrected occasional crash using Crop tool after a Merge operation completed.
  • Fixed an issue where state of HSL controls would be rendered incorrectly in GPU mode when applying Contrast or Saturation local control adjustments.
  • Addressed the issue of the SIGMA 50mm f1.4 ART lens incorrectly identified as Zeiss Milvus 50mm f1.4.

  1. There are more and more Fuji cameras that you support.
Please improve X-Trans rendering and sharpening.
    Kind regards,
    Andreas

  2. Did you guys fix the crashing when opening multiple files from Camera RAW too? Photoshop crashes when I’m trying to open more than one image. This started after the last update.

  3. Thank you for all your work!
How can I request a new lens profile support?
It’s for Ricoh Gr/Gr 2 which is a cult classic camera and they chose Adobes own DNG file format for their raw files so it’s Adobes turn to be friendly back 🙂 Please forward this to the proper department or advise me here as to where I can submit my request.
Thank you again and have a great day!

  4. I agree with Andreas.
I was really excited to see the RAW update message this morning, thinking that this was finally the update we have been waiting for. Unfortunately not.

  5. This update also adds support for the Intel HD 520 GPU! 9.3.1 would just show a blank blue box when GPU acceleration was enabled on the Surface Pro 4. Now it’s working nicely.

  6. How come still no lens profiles for the Tamron SP35mm & SP45mm f1.4 VC? These have been out since September!
    Thank you.

  7. The Olympus cameras and Olympus lens are not listed and in new panorama the lenses must bee recognized ?
    How is the deal ?
    Best regard
    Yves

  8. we don’t need new fuji camera in the database.
We only nedd a better rendering for x-trans raf files!
    hurry up adobe
    🙂
we need to work with your Camera Raw

  9. Dear Tom Hogarty,

Many thanks to you and the Lightroom team for this wonderful update. As a night and landscape photographer I cannot thank you enough for new Samyang / Bower / Rokinon lens profiles.

One question though. In the caption on your Boundary Warp demo above it says that the “animation was created with Lightroom 6.4.” Is that true or was it created with Lightroom CC 2015.4? I ask because everywhere else on the web I see this wonderful new feature listed as available for CC Customers only?

Many thanks again to all the hard work and improvements,

    David Marx

  10. I’m happy to see updates to the Panorama merge. While I find this completely useless as PTGui does such a fantastic job and has tools necessary to pros — it shows work in 1 of the 2 merging areas — and the HDR Merge area is that one that myself and many others are extremely vocal about. We LOVE it, use it constantly and demand a proper batch mode! We demand it because it will only make ACR/Lightroom the leader for HDR Merging and an example of how Adobe listens!

  11. that new feature introduces so many distortions it´s useless. if i want a fisheye look i photograph with a fisheye.

    1. Hi! Thanks for all you do.

For some reason, can’t update through the CC Help>Updates path. Opens a blank window. Where is the download link for Camera Raw 9.4? Thanks!

  12. I tried but could not open the jpg file and error: “could not complete your request because the file could not be found ” pls help me. 🙁

  13. Hi Tom,

Being an amateur photographer, I can’t thank you enough for this wonderful update. Will try this shortly and share my experience with you.
    Thanks again
