Camera Raw 9.7 now available

Camera Raw 9.7 is now available through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and the Creative Cloud application.

The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Camera Raw.  This release also brings support for Pressure Sensitive tablets to Camera Raw.

Please note that this version of Camera Raw for Mac requires macOS 10.10 and greater.

Pressure Sensitive Support

A pressure sensitive pen is very useful for making precise adjustments using brush strokes within your images, and we’re excited to announce that Camera Raw 9.7 now provides support for pressure sensitive devices such as Wacom tablets and Surface Pros.

Pressure applied to the pen will affect the Flow slider within the Local Adjustment Brush.  You can still set your flow to a maximum value, and then use your pressure sensitive pen to fine tune.  Lighter pen strokes result in decreased flow, and heavier pen strokes increase flow.

We also support the erase mode if your pen supports this feature. Turning the pen over and using the “eraser” side will automatically switch the brush to eraser mode, as if you had held down the option key.

  1. Doesn’t appear Adobe tested the installers for this or Lightroom. I see a dialog on Mac “Verifying DNGConverter_9_7.pkg…” that just hangs! Others are complaining about Lightroom’s package on Mac.

    1. There was a temporary issue this morning with downloading the updates from our distribution servers. If you’re experiencing problems running the DNG Converter installer, for instance, please download it again (from scratch) and then try running the re-downloaded installer.

      1. How about just letting CS6 users have the profile file to put in “C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Adobe Standard” rather than leaving them with the dud one, as that version of ACR does support the 5Dsr? (Rather than just leaving them with the dud one.)

          1. LAME. So CS6 users are out of luck or pay monthly to convert images for a particular camera? ok. Horrible customer service.

          2. You are not out of luck and do not have pay monthly. Adobe provides a free DNG converter to convert files from your newer cameras from their native raw format to a DNG format that can be read by older versions of Adobe’s software.

  2. Just got Canon 5d Mark IV and having issues with Camera Raw not opening. Tried everything (I think) I have Photoshop CS6 with plug in version 6.7.0.339. I updated but doesn’t change or update. ???

    1. CS6 only supports Camera Raw 9.1.1 and earlier.
The 5D Mark IV needs Camera Raw 9.7 or later.

The only way to get a Mark IV file into CS6 is to use the Free Adobe DNG Converter to turn your CR2 into a DNG file that your older software can read.

        1. First, verify your DNG converter. Go to About DNG Converter and verify that you have installed and are using 9.7. I just tested and had no issues with DNG Converter 9.7 and a Canon 5DMKIV file.

          1. I have Ver. 9.10 and when I open folder of 5D Mark IV CR2 raws, they are all grayed out. DNG converter will not recognize them.

  3. Pressure Support / eraser flip not working
This has been thoroughly tested with images and grayscale gradients both on launch from bridge and as plugin in PS 2015 and 2015.5 and confirmed not working on at least one windows workstation. We’ll continue testing on mac as well.

    9.7.0.668 / 6.3.177 x64
    wacom 6.3.17-3 (windows ink off)
    Windows 10 1607
    (all latest)
This seems to be a pretty sketchy implemenation. Why no preference settings ?

    1. So true!!!!!

I have trie to find a file for this and cannot. The updater zip file will not update CS6 Typical Adobe!

  4. Hello All

Can someone explain to me why Samsung 6s is not available in camera raw? well its seems there is no samsung mobile camera available on the list whys that..?

      1. As 9.1.1 is the last update for CS6 I have tried using DNG 9.7 to comvert RW2 files but it will not recognise them… How do I edit RW2 files (Panasonic Lumix GX85) in CS6?

          1. Wonderful!!! Yes we all need to add more steps to the work flow for something else to go wrong or add issues.

  5. What about CameraRaw for Adobe Photoshop Elements 14? How can I move on from V 9.5.0.585 to be able to process RAW files from my new Fujifilm X-T2?

    1. You will need to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 15 in order to use Camera 9.7. 9.5.x is the last version supported by Photoshop Elements version 14.

Or, you can use the free DNG Converter to create a DNG file from your Fuji raw so that your older software can read it.

  6. So, let me understand. Photoshop Elements will support the Canon 5d Mark IV? Earlier I read you have to get Lightroom and Photoshop CC. I have Photoshop Elements 14 now, but it won’t upgrade to Adobe Camera Raw 9.7.

    1. Camera Raw 9.7 is supported in Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 and later – not in version 14. You would either need to upgrade your version of Elements or use the free DNG converter to convert your CR2s into a DNG that Elements 14 can read.

  7. How can I activate the drop-down menus in the top menu bar in camera raw using a wacom tablet + pen. It previous versions this worked fine, now it doesn’t

      1. Is it possible to go back to the previous version – when my wacom tablet en pen did work with the cmera raw menu bar?

  8. When does Adobe plan to release the profile for Canon 5D IV to Lightroom 6 (not CC) users?
Is there an Adobe plan to push all users to CC? Very sad if that is the case I enjoyed using LR.

  9. Please allow Photoshop CS6 upgrade for camera RAW. I paid for the program and would expect updates and not be forced into upgrading to CC. I am using the sony RX1 mark II and I cannot open files. You can post your spiel about DNG converter again and again, but please upgrade CS6 for all us users who will not be upgrading to a subscription based model who already paid full price for CS6.

    1. I agree, CS6 and any prior versions should be upgraded for those of us who spent our money on these programs and was not cheap…. where is the loyalty?????

      1. Loyalty….??? Adobe dumped that with each non subscription edition from CS4. Go out and buy new software just to be able to continue to work! Now with CC , even tighter regime for photoshop users .

  10. This is a scam and someone should look into this in more detail. Adobe can’t force people to upgrade to CC, I paid for my Cs6 and I’m demanding an upgrade allowance. I don’t like converting fuji Raf file into DNG. First, the files get smaller in size, which I don’t know I’m losing any meta data captured by fuji, and second, files looks so washed out that I need to heavily work on them.joeg outof fuji looks so much better than the new converted DNG files. Also lens correction screws up everything since without the update, all new fuji lenses profile are missing. This is a serious scam.

  11. I have downloaded the Camera Raw 9.7 onto my computer. How do I get it into my Photoshop Elements 11. I thought it would automatically go in there. I realise it is a plug in. Or could it be that Elements 11 doesn’t support the Camera Raw 9.7 version. If not, then do you know if a later version (or the latest version) of Elements would support it?

    1. Elements 15 is required to use Adobe Camera Raw version 9.7. Photoshop Elements 11 is compatible through Camera Raw version 7.4

Alternately, you can use the free DNG converter from Adobe to create a DNG file from a newer camera that can be read into your older software.

  12. I have downloaded the DNG converter from Adobe and still i can’t read the raw files from my ILCA 99II

    1. That is correct. Support for the Sony Alpha a99 II (ILCA-99M2) has not yet been released. An update will be coming soon to include this new camera.

  13. June 15, 2015:
“In collaboration with Fujifilm, we are still investigating methods to improve fine detail rendering and overall edge definition.”
    Still nothing…

  14. When will there be adobe camera raw support for Pentax K70? Already shot over 4,000 photos and can’t do anything with the raw files.

  15. Can’t get my lightroom 6 to convert my raw files from my canon 5D mark IV ??? I did the download to convert and it will not read the files ??? any help.

  16. I’ve purchased Photoshop Elements 15 to process 5 D Mark IV raw files. The edits work fine with one exception. When I try to change the canon Picture Style in the 3rd tab, there are no options. It just lists “Matrix”. I would like to be able to change styles to Landscape for many shots but do not have that option. Will that be addressed in an update? If not, does the latest lightroom include this option?

  17. Where are we at with this.. long and short. I have a 5D MKIV. I can’t open the CR2 files with the newly updated LR6 package… I wanted standalone LR not CC – …? I’m not planning on messing around and converting files to DNG, is the LR6 stand alone package capable of reading the CR2S?

    1. Lightroom 6.7 supports the Canon 5D MK IV file.
Lightroom 6.8 supports the Canon 5D MK IV for tethering.

Both are free updates to any version of stand-alone (perpetual) Lightroom 6.x. Go to your Help>System Info… and verify your installed version. Update if necessary via the Help>Updates… functionality.

  18. I’m having the same issue as mentioned in previous comments with opening Canon 5D Mk 4 raw files. I have PS CS5.1. I checked the update status which indicates all available updates are installed. Is my only option for opening 5D Mk 4 raw files is to buy new software?

  19. I have the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended and I´ve installed the DNG Converter 9.7 and the Camera Raw 9.1.1 but I don´t can to work with the raw files captured from my digital camera throught the Photoshop.
How can to solve this problem?. Perhaps I need to have other version of the Photoshop?.

    1. The workflow will be to copy your files to a folder watched by the DNG Converter. It will then automatically take your raw file from your new camera and convert them to a DNG file that your old version of Photoshop can read.

  20. Hi,
I have Lightroom CC on Mac. The program seems updated as there is no updates available under Help>Updates. However, LR doesn’t recognize CR2 raw files from Canon 5D Mark IV. On the other hand, Photohop CC opens them without difficulties. Therefore I start thinking that Camera Raw 9.7 hasn’t been used by LR yet. What can I do to force LR to update to CR 9.7 as automatic update doesn’t seem to work?

    1. Lightroom does not use Adobe Camera Raw. Updating Camera Raw will not effect Lightroom. You need to update Lightroom to CC2015.7 or later. If you go to Help>System Info… what version of Lightroom are you running?

  21. I purchased elements 15 for use with my Canon 5D mark IV. Since it came with Camera Raw 9.6, it did not support the camera. This morning, I received a notice that an update to 9.7 was available, so I downloaded and installed it. When I then went back to elements, I was informed a sign in was necessary, which then produced a screen telling me I had a 30 day trial period available, or I could “buy now” for $99. Since the software was bought, paid for and registered, am I to conclude the update voids the original registration, and requires a new purchase of the product?

  22. Hi,

If I try to open/load multiple images in ACR 9.7 (either from Brige or Open menu in PS CC), but it opens single image only.
Is there way to open multiple images in ACR 9.7 to do multiple edit simultaneously?

  23. I’m running LR6 on my iMac under the latest OS X 10.12.1 and a few months ago installed RAW 9.7 on it so that I could use images from a Canon 5D MK4, and all is well there. My laptop was running an older LR 5.7 and I needed it in a hurry so I subscribed to CC as it was the easiest way to update. However I don’t really want to continue the CC subscription. So, I downloaded and installed LR6 on the laptop. Now when I try to launch it, CC is what appears. How can I launch LR6 on the laptop to verify that it works with my MK4 files as the iMac does, without having CC jump in and launch itself? Thanks.

  24. I have Elements 11 but cannot open RAW files from my Canon 5D Mk 4. I have updated as far as I can see. What is the issue?

    1. Elements 11 cannot be updated to include support for the Canon 5D MK IV. You can upgrade to the latest version of Elements (15) to get in-app support or use Adobe’s free DNG converter to create a DNG file from your camera’s CR2 that your older version of Elements can read.

  25. Great, so having forked out on a Canon 5D Mk4 I now have to upgrade both my LIghtroom 5 and Photoshop Elements to use Raw files. Am I missing something or just being forced to pay out more cash?

    1. Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements (14 and older) no longer receive updates. To use your new camera with your older software, you will need to download the free DNG Converter from Adobe. This will take your Canon .CR2 file and convert it into a DNG file backwards compatible with older versions of Adobe’s software.

  26. Thanks a lot. I purchased CS6 3 years ago for the price of $2000, and now I can not use it with Nikon D500.
Hurray, I can get a DNG converter for FREE. Yes the internet is crawling with them and besides I tried it with D7100 that was in the street faster than the RAW converter. Imagine 1500 RAW files converting into DNG. You can wait for hours.
I am not a pro, but a enthusiast. I realy dont need CS6 that much. I will tell everybody else that there is a lot of freeware out there. I fond one that even takes the newest RAW files. Search for them, use them and spen your money for a donation to the small companies. I have had enough with the big ones.

    1. Adobe Photoshop CS6 can use Adobe Camera Raw versions up to 9.1.1. In order to use ACR 9.8 you would need to upgrade your Photoshop to the Creative Cloud version.

To use a Canon 5D Mark IV raw files with Photoshop CS6, you would need to use Adobe’s free DNG Converter to convert the Canon CR2 file into a DNG that can be read by your older software.

  27. What has happend to Camera Raw for CC. In photoshop it goes daft trying to open all manner of applications so much so that I cannot see what I have tried to adjust so makes it impossible to use.
So switch to Lightroom highlight an image and click the tab for Develop a totally different image appears. rub my eyes and yes it is a totally different image. Why??? Adobe have emailed me to tell me that my subscription is going up by 25% great, they can get in touch with me to impart doom and gloom like that but can I get in touch with Adobe to pass on this problem. Not a chance, just sit around and wait to see if the brightsparks in the development dept can be roused by ESP to get the problem fixed.

  28. I am using Adobe PS CS5 on my iMac. Is my version of PS too old to benefit from the latest upgrade. Just bought a canon 5d mark iv. My RAW files are useless right now.

    1. Download Adobe’s free DNG converter for your OS. It will convert the 5D MK IV CR2 files to DNG so that your old versions of Adobe software can read them.

  29. I need adobe raw 9.8 for my Sony a99 mark2 it does not install on CS6, why would this company not support CS6. I have no interest in using the Dng converter, do you have another solution???

  30. My MacBook Pro won’t recognize RAW files shot with my Canon 5D Mark IV, had I known, I wouldn’t have bought the camera. My LR is an old version, but I love it, and am lost without it.
A senior citizen enthusiast, who doesn’t want another monthly bill, I’m so let down.

  31. Does Adobe DNG Converter convert MP4 or MOV files from EOS 5D Mark IV as well? I tried, but it didn’t work. If it doesn’t, what does?

  32. Does LR6 contain the Fuji simulations (Provia, Astia, Velvia etc.) ?
And does Photoshop Elements 15 ?
I want to purchase one of the two products.

  33. I meant baked in LR 6 and within ACR of Photoshop Elements 15. Thank You.

  34. Please Help!!
I need some advise, i just purchased Canon 5d Mark iv, I have CS5 Extended version…my files won’t open, I updated PS it shows now version 6.7.3.339, I believe I need 9.7 version, I cannot find anything to take me to update to that version.
Thank you in advance for you support.

    1. Camera Raw 9.7 is not compatible with Photoshop CS5.
Lightroom version 6.7/CC2015.7 is required for your camera. See: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

      Your options are:

      1. Purchase Lightroom 6.x.
      2. Subscribe to Lightroom CC2015 via the Photographer’s program (Which will contain your Photoshop/ACR upgrade)
      3. Use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert your camera’s raw files to DNG files that can be read by your older software. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/adobe-dng-converter.html
